Should of had him from the start and have a back story. Just shows up in Ep 3 as a big bad. Though maybe they did in the EU, I wasn't much into Clone wars EU back then.

Spending more time with the villain this time around would be a great idea. Or at least let them do something terrible like Tarkin did, destroying Alderaan.

That's because, unlike Vader, we never got to know him.

Is Grievous popular with any type of audience? ROTS could have not included him at all, and it would not have made a bit of difference to the story. Not only did you not get to know "him" (much less care about him or what he was up to), but all he did was create a "look what I can do with CGI" tangent.

I would have much preferred that his screen-time was filled with the formation of the rebellion scenes that were edited out. They actually meant something to the story.

Did I mention I'm not a fan of that character? :D

We didn't really get to know any villains in the prequels. Darth Maul could have easily served as the villain for the 3 movies and Anakin could have slain him to solidify his dark path.

They probably wouldn't have cast Ray Park in that case. He was a martial artist not an actor. They even dubbed over his dialogue. To have a fully developed character over 3 movies they would have cast someone else. So the Darth Maul you would have for the whole trilogy wouldn't be the same one as in TPM.

A mix of Dooku/Maul would have been best.

They mentioned Grievous on SNL which I thought was cool.

I'm sure someone else has said this in one of the previous 13,000+ posts, but every time I read this thread title I can't help but see Tony Danza.

I think most people see Plagueis. Tony Danza would be preferable ;)

Doesn't Tony Danza look like Sidious at this point?

Definitely a nice quote for your side in the canon debate. ;)

LunarMoth has also put in a pre order for a t-shirt. For you two guys I'll also throw in a commemorative mug with a picture of Kinberg firing a large canon :)

I think other than Darth Vader the villains of the OT are rather 2 dimensional... be it Tarkin, Veers, Jabba or Boba Fett. I think the villains of the PT are pretty much in keeping with that particular template for creating an antagonist. The real difference of course is that the OT villains are from a much more iconic set of films. I think in relative terms Boba Fett is by far the most overated and thinly drawn character (Jango is infinetly more interesting IMHO), but Boba did have a great design.

I think you and I agree on this more than you think. I've been excited about the EU being demolished. I just really like the idea of a larger canon universe moving forward, as long as they plan it well. But if it ends up being just the movies, that's fine too.

Yeah I've noticed we agree on most things. I'd also like a well organised multi faceted canon. I think that's what they're now going to do. Hopefully Rebels will tie in nicely with the ST or spin offs.

I'm in agreement with Dra---. The only real difference of our opinions, DD, is that whatever it ends up being I'm very confident that TCW will be on the same level as Rebels, whereas you seem to think it won't.

At the end of day, more important than canon is what GL likes. If GL hates a concept, it won't be going anywhere near the ST no matter how canon it is.

Quote from Disney chairman Alan Horn this week: "George is a consultant. We now are the primary drivers behind this property. But he is a very valued person. He's the father of all this. Kathy interacts with him, back and forth I think."

That statement doesn't fill me with confidence that what GL likes & dislikes is as crucial as it used to be. IMO having GL out of the drivers seat & as a consultant in the background will be a great arrangement that will produce some awesome SW content.
