I think it's fair to bring up past films if people are looking to match precedents re multiple costumes.

I suspect that's not a final design in the concept art (going off the difference in the mask and the lack of the cross-hilt), but it's fun to see the evolution. I wonder if it has something to do with casting a great actor like Adam Driver and not wanting to keep him behind a mask the whole time. I get the feeling this may be more a functional helmet for battle as opposed to a life-support system like Vader's. What will be interesting to see is a) how the mask opens up if they do reveal his features and b) whether he's he cyborg underneath the mask, or if that's Serkis. Basically, what does Kylo Ren look like behind the mask.

EDIT - Victorian - on the toy and in the IR pic, the eyes don't seem visible. In the MSW pic, the design clearly enables you to see the top half of his face.

Yeah, other than Padme and Palps, there wasn't much costume variation.

I can see the "sell more toys angle" but I can also see the "keep it simple and iconic angle". There aren't many villains that change up their looks that I can think of off the top of my head, unless of course Ren has different get up for different environments, or an earlier mask/ suit gets damaged in the action somehow. Not impossible I guess.

Uhhh... Nay. Indie Revolver stated in one of its articles that Ren possibly uses the Wampa saber early on in the film (which is probably depicted in the image above) before employing the crossguard version.

The amount of outfits worn by past Star Wars villains..
    The Emperor - hooded robes
    Vader - needs no explaining
Dooku - his outfit never changed
    Maul - yep
Jango Fett - did you really expect HIM to be in his suit the whole time?
So where's the basis of a discussion from that with relation to Kylo Ren's supposed sartorial diversity in the TFA? Interested to hear your logic chum..;)

You are wrong about Darth Vader.

Kylo Ren could very well have his own reasons for an evolving look as well.

Yeah I can't get access to that pic. But I take it it's the Anakin outfit when he commits himself to Palpatine? If so, it doesnt count for me. Vaders outfit is the iconic one.

It doesn't matter if it counts for you or not. It is a fact.

You're point will be pertinent if it proves to be FACT that Kylo Ren starts out in the TFA as a human, unmasked Adam Driver who becomes disfigured in a duel or battle and proceeds to wear a mask for the remaining entirety of the film. But then where's the mystery to that?

That mask is definitely awesome...and I wonder if it glows like that, that piping. That would be pretty neat.

I like the helmet design but what about those yellow tribal lines? I'd like to hear some insight damn it.

According to IR the grooves are not yellow in the final design.

I know it'll sound obvious, but red would make sense and look cooler.

Although I guess yellow eyes is a Sith thing too. That said, going off MSW's reports, I wonder if this design initially started off for the military man before switching out to the villain (unless they are one and the same, but I think the military man is now evolved into Poe Dameron).

Art book for TFA is my top priority Xmas present for 2015. Make it fat and juicy, I'd love to see the evolution of all these soon to be iconic characters.

It's also interesting to read all the reactions, not just on this board... because whatever we say, be it like or dislike, TFA is already a fully formed cinematic beastie and with every silly, weird or interesting drop - like 'Poe Dameron' (which I love) or whatever - unfinished action figures leak! - we're getting bits and pieces about something that will become insta-iconic in the eyes of the world, at least audio-visually. It's like learning about stormtrooper design for the first time in your life, or even something primary as Coca-Cola.

Star Wars is just that huge. And thanks to George Lucas it's ours again.
