I'm suprised that nobody has mentioned Samwise Gamgee yet. I've got much love and respect for the little fellow.

    Tyrion Lannister
    Jon Snow (and Ghost)
    Daenerys Targyron
    Sandor Clegane
    Jaime Lannister

I'd add a computer game character as well. Minsc and Boo (from the Baldurs Gate series) are sooooo funny.

"Stand and deliver, that my hamster may have a better look at you"
    "Buttkicking, for goodness!"
"I grow tired of shouting battle cries at this mage. Boo will finish his eyeballs once and for all so that he does not rise again. Evil, meet my sword. SWORD, MEET EVIL!"

    Raistlin Majere: "Dragonlance".
    Elric: "Elric" series.
    Drizz't Do'Urden: "Dark Elf Series".
    Artemis Entriri: "Dark Elf Series".
    Rand al'Thor: "Wheel of Time".
Arilyn Moonblade: "Song and Sword Series".

And there's probably a few others that don't immediately come to mind. ;)

"Mulan" was actually Mulan Xiao-Fen of the house of Fen, who joined the army masqerading as a man. Her supposedly single handed defeat of the Han army is just a Disney story, though. She was just a foot"man" like everone else. I don't think mixing history and fact can be consdiered a real fictional character.

    That said, Mulan :D

Patrick Bateman from the book "American Psycho" was all too real. The story was morbidly realistic and spawned a movie that's a near masterpiece of film. Bateman is the most evil person that I have ever read. Most psychopathic serial killers draw the line somewhere. Bateman showed no mercy for women(whom he likes to kill and rape the most), children, and baby animals. He would kill any living thing, and when he does he takes great pleasure from doing so.

Joruus C'baoth was a really good realistic insane Jedi. Him and a long with Grand Admiral Thrawn are the two things that kept my interest while reading the Thrawn Trilogy books. C'baoths odd unpredictable behavior and his constant rantings of power clearly make him seem like someone that is seriously mentally ill.
