Who's Who in the NJO (Kyle Katarn UPDATE!)

Just got the latest Star Wars Insider (#57) in the mail today. Here's what the "Who's Who in the New Jedi Order" article has to say about Kyle Katarn:

"Gamers might recognize Kyle Katarn from the first-person shooter game Dark Forces (and its sequel, Jedi Knight, in which Kyle was portrayed by actor Jason Court). Kyle Katarn also appeared in a series of illustrated novels written by William Dietz. As if stealing the Death Star plans and defeating the Dark Jedi Jerec weren't enough, Kyle now uses his military expertise to develop strategies to fight the Yuuzhan Vong."

 

Good to here that he's being aknowlaged, now all he needs to do his make an appearence, con you say Rebel Dream?

 

Well, I doubt he'll be brought in the NJO since he hasent played a part already.

 

That's very good to hear; at least we know he's still alive and doing something.

 

I think this is bad to reveal. Now, we know he survives Jedi Outcast

 

There are all kinds of goodies in the article!

It says in Kubis Nu's blurb that "it is likely that Luke later absorbed the Jensaarai castoffs into his academy.", which possbily named Nu as the Rodian defender in I, Jedi.

 

We already knew he would survive outcast. Did you think they'd put us through all that just to kill him off in a closing cutscene? Plus, there inevitably has to be an expansion to any shooter made with the Q3 engine.

You know how many time Kyle died at my hands in DF and JK?!?!

Seriously, though, what good would a game be where the hero ends up dead no matter what?

 

some games kill the hero, or make him lose something.


Were there any juicy tidbits about the Kypster?

 

Not really. Just shows that he has some serious side burns!

 

A while back a member sent allston a letter about bringing kyle into the NJO. Allston said he couldn't guarentee if he could considering he already had alot of other characters planned. But that he would look into it.

 

You know I'm not sure, but main characters in an FPS tend to win the game. Infact games are intended to be won. Why wouldn't he survive and beat the living daylights out of the final boss?

 

What questions should we ask at the Jedi Outcast chat tonight?

Oh Mas, its on the 20th I think. Know what I want to ask. When Kyle goes to Yavin, will we meet any of the Jedi from the Expanded Universe? If he says Kyp is in, that to me is as good as Bib getting the Force Boat in Battlegrounds

Considering it is a 1st party LFL company expanded universe product as opposed to 3rd party Expanded Universe product.

Yes you will see expanded universe characters, most definatly. Though no telling which EU characters will appear. Be they from bantam, DH, marvel, Lucasarts, del rey, or elsewhere, that's not known.

The only thing we know about the new baddie is that he is building a machine to harness the power of the force.

 

So why is it that kyle katarn got demoted from jedi master to Jedi Knight?

What in Jedi Outcast has held him back?

I guess falling over the darkside, and becoming an self induced outcast, after he returned he was afraid that taking an apprentice might be dangerous.

 

I feel kind of stupid asking this but who really is Kyle Katarn? Is he mentioned in any books or comics and if so does he have any interaction with Luke?

He has novels, and video games.

He has interaction with luke in the novels.

In which luke says he is a strong knight chosen for destiny. A Prophecy that luke can't interfere in.

Soldier for the empire, Rebel Agent, and Jedi Knight.

 

They were also released as excellent radio dramas with voice actors and everything. Better than the illustrated novels.

 

True.

But there are things about both that makes it worth owning both.

Some scenes in one isn't in the other, or vice versa.

 

Ya don't have to tell me twice; I own both, though I think I'm kind of biased because I like to listen to radio dramas on plane trips rather than read books.
