The TIE Fighters in ANH (or whatever you want to call it) are white, and then became blue in The Empire Strikes Back and remained that way in Return of the Jedi. Do you know or think the color change was a decision of Lucas' or Irvin Kershner's? Or perhaps, is it written anywhere that the white coloring was simply for the squadrons stationed at the Death Star?
They were grey, not white, and they were going to be blue originally in ANH but changed to grey in order to better film against a bluescreen according to what I just found out on wikipedia.
What version of the film did you watch where TIE fighters were white? I've never heard of this before
The ones in ANH always looked white to me, as well as the toy. Either way, the question was regarding how they were one color and then they were another and that first color was never seen again. Asked and sort of answered in November.
The original Kenner Tie-Fighter toys were white, which kind of re-enforced the incorrect perception that they were white in the film. Of course Kenner wasn't exactly gospel when it came to color. They gave the original Luke figure a yellow lightsaber--understandable, since it looks a bit whiteish in the first film--but then by the time TESB came out, and it was clear that Luke's saber was blue, they not only gave his figure a yellow lightsaber again, they made the role play "The Force" lightsaber yellow too.
They did give TIE Fighters that cool ejection-wing thing where the solar panels pop off. That was in the movies, right?
