ST Why 30 years into the future?

I still don't know what the correct side of this is. If there is a 20 year gap between the PT and the OT, then why is a 30 year gap a question?

 

We don't know how desolate the rest of the galaxy is. It is on the outskirts of the galaxy I believe. Probably equivalent to the Middle East.

Where I live, it's no longer $6/7 for a 12-pack (like it was about 5 or 6 years ago). Those damn hipster kids with their ephemeral trendsetting BS drove the price up due to the simple economic principle of "what the hipster market will bear." And they leave their empty cans on my lawn. Get them off my lawn. And there's nary a dent in the cans. Hell, in my day, we made at least a half-hearted attempt to crush the cans because it A) lets out pent-up youthful, rebellious angst, B) increases the density of a bag full of empty cans so you can exchange 20 such bags for $12 so you can buy another 12-pack, and C) makes other people think your white belt and stolen bowling shoes are a sign that you will beat their ass if they decide to mess with their smartphone.

Though this is one of the purest examples of "splitting hairs," here are better $1 beers that are actually still $1:

- Hamms (tastes slightly more horrible, but has the same alcohol content, and if you're drinking any of this **** taste is not high on your list of criteria)
- Old Style (tastes about the same and makes people think you're from Chicago)
- Schlitz (tastes slightly more horrible but is much hipper these days than PBR because "yeah, I used to drink PBR, those were fun days.")
- Old Milwaukee (tastes markedly worse but is largely unknown and fellow hipsters think you must have read a newer issue of Pfft Monthly than they have)
- Rye whiskey or pisco or Pernod (not beer, but confounding to the anti-in-crowd which makes them think you're better than them)

Because the OP thinks Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher look soooo old and decrepit that setting TFA "just" 30 years after ROTJ, which came out just a little over 30 years ago, is implausible.

He thinks the entire timeline should have shifted 40 to 50 years ahead to satisfy his notion that Leia and Han look like they're 80+ years old.

And what's the difference even if they are in terrible shape? Do important events in life only happen when we are looking our best and youthful? The story is set 30 years in the future because that's when the events of this movie take place. The characters have aged the same as they have in real life. One thing is for sure I guarantee they look better at their respectful ages than you will.

Respectfully, does it matter? The passage of time for events, as well as the age ranges of Han/Leia/Luke + Kylo Solo/ Rey ___ all fit together close enough for storyline continuity.

Plus, you'll get your wish soon enough -- I'm calling it right now, that Episodes 8, 9, et. al. will surely be 40-50 yrs after Ep. 6.

Frankly, I find it pathetic.

 

I completely agree on a story level, but it's still a hard personally. They all look great for their age though.
