Trust me, if it were that easy to get a credit card I would have a billion by now.

It is that easy. One of my friends who is a minor was able to get a frickin credit card!

I think this is proof that he is a little demented and living under a rock--has he never heard of a little thing called IDENTY THEFT?

    Obviously not.

Baney-poo, please don't post hacked material, edited or not.

However, if someone asks the mods about specific information they'd like about what was or wasn't said, I think we'd be happy to tell you most anything.

Also: I would prefer to discuss this matter with everyone if at all possible, but if the flaming/inappropriacy continues, locking the thread for the night is also an option.

Why have you not told us that the boards are going to be deleted within 48 hours? Is it because you don't want to start a panic?

Come now, have things come so far down the easy path that posted edited material isn't allowed? Surely, you jest.

But I'll refrain, out of respect for the the members who I've served with. Even the stupid ones. I am not looking at DA. //whistles...

I am absolutely sick of this subject. For all we know Philip could be some crazy loon who is after money and wants to scam someone's adress... seriously... People's lives are at stake... he could hunt u down and take your money, and if you refuse then..... well he knows where u live.

I may be terribly wrong or... terribly right.

I have no idea what Philip is like in real life, he could be a nice guy or the complete opposite.

Many of you posters could be dangerous people who are after young people... they are on many message boards all over the internet. (crooks) Thats life.

I just trust that all of youse are good people.

Don't shoot me for saying all this.

    1. Because they're not going to be deleting, assuming no one does something crazy to convince Philip Wise the JC isn't profitable enough to be worth the hassle.

    2. To be or not to be? That is the question.

No, I still haven't made a decision. Either staying or going would break my heart right now, I think. And I also want to try to keep the JC together somehow.

Edit: Thanks, Liz, I'll take it anyway. :)

and how would having mods' real names stop them from anonymously leaking Mod Squad info to outsiders?

There will always be spies but who's more likely to be a spy? Someone who is willing to give out their contact info or someone who demands to remain anonymous?

I agree the how this was put into action could have been better but beyond that I think this blow up is silly.

Don't complain about your mod squad being insecure if you don't even know who it is your giving access to.

And thanks for posting PW's comments. I actual agree with him more now. Emailing your address isn't a big deal. SSN and Credit card yes but your Address?

Ebay emails people's addresses out all the time to people your buying junk from. Let me ask this.. how many folks who are upset about this use Ebay I wonder?

Well I've read the hacked material. All I see is a bunch of double talk bull crap. I'm not going to quote the material, but I can fully see why someone wouldn't want to give their personal information to this guy. I mean, not only did he DEMAND their information, but he was a total arse about it.

If you go, you'll be missed. But take the time to think it over.

Might I suggest getting reeeeeeally drunk? ;)

Doright, whith those addresses, he could sign them up for spam snail mail. He could be a stalker. He could be just a plain weirdo. Maybe he won't keep the info close to his chest and it'll get out to someone who is crazy. For this site, I would not take that risk. No message board is worth my saftey or my privacy.

Well, at least the mods staying here will have plenty of info about how to check their credit report for free, enlarge body parts, porn and credit card offers. I guess that's the reward for service.

I think you're misunderstanding the situation. The major source of complaints was not the fact that Philip wanted information, it was the way he asked for it. Yes, some people did refuse to comply because they didn't want to risk having some troll they'd banned hacking in and coming to their house, but the biggest issue was how disrespectful the ownership was.

And the complete lack of respect shown by Wise only compounded my lack of desire to give him my personal info - or indeed, to trust him with my personal info.

I think giving in is a lot worse. Asking the mods to give their address and all that is insane, we all agree with that. If enough people blacken out their names (or resign, which is a shame because a lot of excellent Mods and Reps I know have resigned over this), it sends a pretty strong message to the "higher admin".

    Don't make me post, Bane!
Bad things happen when I post!
Warnings are issued, mods abuse their powers, questions go unanswered!

    Edit: Dammit....outwitted again! ;)

That's where my 'beef' lies. I've collected and traded through the net, and so the address thing wasn't a big deal to me. But it was disheartening to see days go by without a response and then getting total dismissal.

    A true statement, BecJedi.

However, that message is empty if its intended recipient doesn't give a flying **** about the people, or the place the message pertains to.

And that's what we have here with Philip Unwise.

If so many admins were forced to be demoted, leaving not enough to operate the boards, they would likely simply have shut down the entire thing. The "message" would not have had the effect you had in mind. One reason I gave an address was to try to ensure that the boards stayed up and running.
