There are comlinks in the OT.

In ANH you know the white object that Threepio talks in during the trash compactor scene, and the same goes for Luke.

Han and Luke both had them when they were doing a patrol on Hoth.

Umm I'm not really good when it comes to naming Star Wars technology but isn't that a Comlink used by 3p0 in ANH and Luke.

GoldenRod: Use the Comlink OH dear I forgot!

Then I think Han uses one on Hoth when he tells the Rebel commander he is takin Leia out on the Falcon.

But then again I could be wrong :)

Yup, they're in all three OT films. In JEDI, Leia uses one to call R2 to the bunker door.

This thread is a classic. It's almost as good as the one a year or two ago asking why the prequels don't have subtitled aliens like the original movies.

Han uses a Comlink to contact the imperial base on Endor to trick them into coming out,he also broadcasts on camera at the same time.

What Han uses is video-based technology (holocom?), a comlink is audio-only.

Were they destroyed during the purge?

Yes, I think that Killer Comlinks were the biggest threat to Palpatine along with the Jedi.

Yep, there's a comlink in each OT movie.

In AOTC, no one felt the need to use their SW version of a cell phone, I guess.

The hooded agent at Mos Eisley used one to contact a Sandtrooper patrol.
