Why aren't the droids let into the pub in Mos Eisley?

It's obvious. Droids can't drink. End of story.

Maybe it's like the "No dogs" policy of plenty of drinking establishments?

"Their kind" is a discriminatory phrase. It's not analogous to dogs at all because it identifies the droids as persons -- just inferior persons who exist on a much lower rung of the social hierarchy. It's meant to be a play on racism.

I have always loved that line. Their kind... wow! Where did that come from?
It's not like, "Hey, you can't park there," or, "No backpacks in the store."

    Their kind...

    Oh, man.

Yes, while most characters in the OT other than Luke and Obi-Wan are pretty rude to / dismissive of droids, Mr. Bartender takes that to an extreme. [face_laugh]

This. Imagine this: The bartender was a veteran of the Clone Wars, and has a deep "racial" hatred of droids. It would be like a WWII vet who owned a bar, and wouldn't let Japanese people into his bar. Think "Cotton Hill."

He didn't even need to be a veteran. The Outer Rim Sieges would've still been in the minds of anyone who was alive during that time, so there'd be a lack of trust for droids no matter who you were.
