I found an image and added text as a joke, and don't feel like finding the origional pic, so look at this:

Ok... so why are there pants sitting next to Yoda?

That would be the backpack that Yoda rode around in. It's made out of jean material.

WHOA. I'm not the only one who always thought those looked like pants! [face_laugh] (Far more in the publicity picture than in the film, thank God.)

Either it's actually Luke's backpack, or we missed out on a great cut scene from ESB.

    YODA: Pants matter not!
LUKE: Okay. I'll unzip my fly.
YODA: No! Pants not. Do wear pants not. There is no 'fly'.

(Hope that hasn't been done before... as I'm sure y'all know of the greatness that is the Star Wars Pants site...)

I always thought that was his way of proving to Yoda that he would go back to Dagobah.

Yep. There's no sense in wasting a good pair of pants.

Or should the thread say, "Why did Luke leave his pants for face Vader?"

As I'm sure you ALL know, the original line in the script was:

LUKE: "Master Yoda, I promise you... I WILL come back and finish the training! You have my pants!"

Of course, Kershner decided to change "pants" to "word", and the entire scene just took a nose-dive because of that.

On a side note, am I the only one who doesn't thing Yoda himself is wearing pants in that picture? I think it's just a robe between him and the Force.

    Okay, I'll be the party-pooper.

That's Luke's jacket! You can see the collar, the sleeves, everything.

Hamill is showing off his beautiful biceps in that scene, as you'll recall. [face_love] [face_love]

You're probably right, but it's more fun for us to think it's not...

    You're right, of course.

    Maybe it's Yoda's pants.

    He likes 'em baggy, yo.

Perhaps Yoda should have recommended Luke put his pants back on as a cure for the coldness of the cave?

Um, there's no Yoda in the banner. Just Vader, Obi-Wan, Luke, Leia, Han and C-3PO, and then a Luke/Vader duel on the right side.
