Obi-Wan believed he had won and the battle was over. Okay, so he didn't stab Anakin in the face or kick him into the lava, but who in their right mind would've thought a human could survive those wounds? How was he to know that Yoda had failed and that Palps was on his way to save Anakin? As far as Obi-Wan was concerned, Anakin was dead, but just didn't know it yet.

Ben: "You can't win, but there are alternitives to fighting."

Obi-wan and Yoda realized this. It would be foolish to try to fight the entire Empire, when they have the advantage. The Alliance would take nearly twenty years to create. Nor could they afford to bring too many Jedi together, as was demonstrated when Vader attacked the Jedi gatherings on Kessel, Kashyyyk and Naboo. Every time the Jedi tried it, they were found and killed by the Empire and the Sith. Those who didn't gather or survived an attack, threw down their sabers and went into exile as Yoda and Obi-wan did. Occassionaly, Vader would find those who went into exile and killed them, such as the Dark Woman.

Patience and the Force would be enough to turn the tide in time. The Alliance was ready and the Skywalkers could take an active role in restoring the Republic. The citizens saw through the Empire thanks to the destruction of Alderaan and the disbanding of the Senate.

well someitmes fellows you have to know when you are fighting a losing battle. even though obi wan beat vader yoda could not defeat the emperor so even if vader was killed they would still take a very big chance eliminating the emperor. plus they figured they would give the sith some of there own medicine by hiding and making them believe the jedi were exticnt then remerge with luke as there avenger.

I think that Yoda had a better understanding of the prophecy after his duel with Sidious and the birth of the twins. He may have realized that it was impossible for anyone to bring balance to the force (i.e. destroy the Sith) except for Anakin.

Knowing the Lord Vader had consumed Anakin, Yoda knew that only Anakin's children could bring him back in order to bring balance back to the force.

I only say this because, regardless of rankings who was the best Jedi/Sith, Yoda was the wisest of them all and had the clearest understanding of the Force.

    1) They needed to come up with a new plan

    2) They were tired and needed a break from all the fighting

    3) They needed to make sure the kids grew up well so they'd confront Vader

    4) They needed to learn from Qui-gon

    5) Meditation is good

    6) It was tea time on Alderaan

    7) Obi-wan wanted to make sand castles and Yoda wanted to build mud huts
