why doesnt Yoda show up after the Temple gets blown up?? ill tell you, because the plot needs Luke to not act like Luke and the plot needed Yoda to come in and get Luke off his island for that really deflating end confrontation with Kylo. how any OT fan can enjoy this film is beyond me. no characters develop AT ALL Rey is thee most boring main character in Fantasy. George, if you did not realize it then you surely do now. Kathleen Kennedy was the wrong person to hand the keys to.

Can someone explain how "do or do not there is no try." fits into nuyoda's philosophy of "learn from your failures" it makes no sense to me at all.

Yep. Luke cut himself off from the Force because he saw himself going down the same Dark Side rat hole that the Old Republic Jedi Order went into. He didn't find any answers on the island and he would rather DIE and the Jedi Order DIE than go to the Dark Side.

And why didn't Yoda tell him to solve his problem before shutting himself off from the Force? Because Yoda doesn't know how to solve his problem!!

Remember back in ROTJ when Yoda and Obi-Wan told him that he had to confront Vader and the Emperor; take them out the old-fashioned way with a lightsaber? How he was their last hope for defeating them? That it was impossible to bring Vader back from the Dark Side. Well, they were WRONG!!! And Yoda in Episode VIII knew it.

And Luke did not have a plan going to Endor. He just knew he could not kill his father. He saw light in Vader and went that way. It wasn't a lightsaber that killed Palpatine; it was Vader/Anakin coming back from the Dark Side. Neither Obi-Wan nor Yoda saw it coming. So, by the time you get to Episode VIII, they knew they had to wait until the Force presented them with another option.

BTW, who struck first back in the Temple when Ben first went? Luke or Ben? It looked like two different versions of the same story. Luke striking first when he senses that Ben has gone dark? Or Ben striking first when he senses that Luke has given up on him.

As per the reverse of TPM where Qui-Gon says by quieting your mind you can hear the midi-chlorians continually speaking to you telling you the Will of the Force.

So by creating noise is his mind Luke can block out the "speaking" of the midi-chlorians and therefore the Force.

Force ghosts are mysterious because they only show up when the writers need them. Logic-wise, of course Yoda would have showed up earlier. That he only shows up now is a sign that there's something wrong -- not with Luke -- but with the story.

I suspect that Luke really did minimize his presence in rhe Force and "sever" himself from it as much as he could.
It was telling that he had not felt the death of Han thru the Force so he must have really found a means to diminish his Force senses.

IMO - As we saw with Ben, Yoda and Anakin, the moment when one becomes a Force ghost is a peaceful contemplative moment. Lukes strain in tthe end was the result of both the effort of creating his Force illusion and that he had not flexed his Force "muscles" in a long time so it hurt.

Luke reached a level in the Force where he understood that it was time to go to the next level. He was one with the Force.

He did not die from the effort, as he later manages to rise and return to a meditation position. And only then he vanishes while meditating in the Force.

I mean, of course it was a huge effort which drained his energy. If he fell to his death after the Force-projection, it would be different. But he manages to raise and return to the rock to meditate and then joins the Force.

He knew he would do this, as he tells Kylo he will haunt his mind from them on. I think that now that Luke is immortal, basically a God, he will F-word Kylo's mind big time.

And Force Ghosts can interact with the real world, as Yoda showed.

Why Yoda did not show earlier? Well, we do not know if he did not appear to Luke in the last 30 years. Maybe he was missing from the last 2 years? 2 months? We do not know.

In the movie "The Legend of Hell House", medium Ben Fischer pretty much turns off his psychic abilities to protect himself from the malevolent spirit in the house. It's said he's experienced enough to put up strong mental defenses, walling himself in so nothing can reach him.

I figure that's what Luke did. He put up his shields and locked himself inside so nothing could get through. Nothing came in, nothing came out. He basically went into silent running mode, until Rey forced him to reconsider and re-establish contact. That's when Yoda knew he was finally ready to listen.

As has been stated, Luke cut himself off from The Force, and couldn't see or commune with Yoda. That simple.

Although never directly stated (heck most things about the Force are never directly stated), its always been implied that Force users are the only ones that can see Force ghosts, and if Luke has cut himself off from the FOrce...well...no Yoda ghost.

I get the impression that Yoda had been there the whole time, but Luke couldn't see him. It wasn't until Luke slowly got back in touch with the Force that he could see and communicate with Yoda.

Luke cut himself off from the Force. As soon as Rey turned up and left soon after, Yoda, Anakin and Obi-Wan drew straws as to who was going to do the teaching. No pun intended, but Yoda’s was the shortest.
