although it can be inferred in this way, i dont think the prophecy should be reduced down to who-can-kill-who. if we look at it that way, it makes the entire plot of the movies completely pointless

The prophecy did not mention the sith, it merely said that the DARK SIDE would rise and that the Chosen One who was to be born of the Force would bring balance.

Remember in ROTS novel of how Obi-Wan said that the Jedi had a bias towards the prophecy, he said that while it was a Jedi prophecy it didn't say the Chosen one had to be a Jedi. They also assumed that once the Sith had re-emerged that bringing balance to the Force would mean destroying the Sith, when in fact the opposite happened and the prophecy was eventually fulfilled.

"Which a redeemed Anakin Skywalker, not Obi-Wan Kenobi, does in ROTJ. Enough said."

We all know that. There is no debat weather or not anakin is the chosen one. We know he is. The question is at the end of TPM why dont the Jedi think Obi Wan is the chosen one?

They find out the sith have returned. And Obi Wan winds up killing one of the Sith. And from the Jedi point of view they dont know if Maul was the master or the apprentice. So for all they know Maul was the Master and Obi Wan killed him. Plus Obi wan was still a padawan. A padawan killed a Sith. A Sith who killed a Jedi Master.

So i'm saying IF the prophecy just says something along the lines of "there will come to be a chosen one that will bring the force into balance" then obi wan could fit that. But if something is said along the lines of "there will come to be a chosen one who would be created through the force that would bring balance to the force" then thats obviously not obi wan since he has parents.
