Why didn't Obi Wan and Anakin use the force to release their chains in AOTC?

I watched AOTC last night and couldn't help but wonder why Obi & Ani didn't just use the Force to remove their handcuffs? Especially Obi Wan who was trapped in them for quite some time. The Emporer removed Luke's handcuffs with a simple wave of the hand in ROTJ, so why didn't Obi Wan and Anakin?

It's also ironic that Padmé was able get out of her handcuffs, while the Jedi couldn't.

Maybe he can prevent them from doing it by use of the Force, but not by use of a lockpick?

It is funny that a non Force user managed to escape something as simple as hand-cuffs while the two powerful Jedi couldnt. Also makes you wonder why Obi and Ani didnt do the same on the Invisible hand when Greivous captured them...
They should start carrying lockpicks in their utility belts from now on.

Padme was "just" a girl, with no Jedi training at all. It's reasonable that they'd put their efforts on contianing the Jedi, becuase they probably didn't see her as a threat.

If only siths can unlock stuff, how could Anakin release Palpy in ROTS? He wasnt a Sith then, still a Jedi, although he just used darkside tactics to kill off old Dooku...

 

^ Didn't you see the wierd energy field surrounding them? They were glowing, so duh, obviously those are Light-side Locks.

Same thing I was thinkin,and if jedi masters are so strong in the force (which is the only reason why they can keep up with the sith) how come they dont use more powerful force powers.

About the question...How else was 1.Obi-wan gana fight that bug(besides the force) 2.What else was anakin ganna hold on the thingy with.

 

Of course Padme could.. its a diplomatic solution. Obviously the obvious didnt present itself to Obi Wan and Anakin.

 

I think Leia inherited Padme's ability to take care of things herself. Neither one of them "expect" the men around them to protect or rescue them.

Just as Padme takes charge of her situation in the arena, Leia does that same in ANH and TESB.

It's interesting how these female characters start of really strong and independent, but then kind of lose that zest in the third films of both trilogies.

It's good to be reminded that these are ONLY movies once in a while. Sometimes stuff happens simply to make the scene better.

 

Probably the same reason they needed to use the force to take back their lightsabers from Grievous... so they could cut off each other's handcuffs. Something about being cuffed does not bode well for using the force I guess.
