Why didn't Owen Lars recognise them?

In ANH Owen Lars bought C-3PO and R2-D2, but he didn't seem to recognise them. I thought that was strange, since he did see them in AotC, didn't he?

 

well its been 22 since he last saw them. And c3po had on gold armor. And c3po also had a memory wipe so he would not remember owen

 

yea that is odd, probably because 3p0 is grey in episode 2 not gold. or he may trying to keep luke safe from his father's past

 

and owen really doesn't have much interaction with the droids. remember owen and beru die early. the only interaction he has is when he purchases them. when he learns from luke that they are associated with obi-wan, he orders that their memories be erased. thats probably when he realized who the droids reaally were.
