why does 3-PO have sliver lower leg in CT ?

    Lucas has said this was put there for 3PO to give the impression that he has baeen through a lot, like if there was a backstory of how he got that silver leg (don't know if there is one, maybe EU freaks knnow the answer to that), to make the carachter's invisible backround richer.

    He's probably just aged, and his gold plating has begin to lose its color. It was put on nearly 20 years ago when Padme got him. That's bound to do something to a droid.

    There's actually not much EU on the subject as it was a topic that was off-limits.

    The closest was one of the droid comics where 3PO gota silver leg but it turned out to be a bomb, which was removed in ime and he got his gold leg back afterwards.
