Why does luke call the droids 'robots'?

    I know that in the novelization the word "droid" was a slang term for robot, used infrequently by the characters in the book.

    Maybe it's the complete opposite within the movie universe itself :)

    They still use it as a term for FTL, though. Phrases like "make the jump to lightspeed" seem to mean going to hyperspace and not just staying down at 1c.

    You make it sound like we disagree. :p Movie-jokes like ^^that aside, the detailed mechanics of hyperspace are just difficult - so much that even wookieepedia is vague on it ;) Of course it involves the speed of light somehow - as you pointed out, they say so.


    How'd we get from robots to FTL/HS anyway? o_O

    Luke uses a lot of casual terms - he calls R4D5 an "R2 unit", and Tusken Raiders "Sandpeople". Guess you could call him an unsophisticated farm boy, eh!
