If Luke is training to be a Jedi in ESB, why does he still use his blaster in battle instead of his lightsaber? If Obi-Wan were alive, he'd probably smack him upside the head for using such a clumsy and uncivilized weapon. If Luke were using his saber in Cloud City instead of his blaster when trying to chase those storm troopers and Boba Fett, he could have beaten them and even rescued Han and Leia.

    1. At this point, he is still only a Jedi wannabe, without the bulk of his training.

    2. Jedi aren't banned from using blasters. Note ObiWan's exchange with Grevious in ROTS. Uncivilised, yes. Inefficient, no!

He most likely used his blaster to blast things, unforunately the lightsabre is not very useful at a distance.

EDIT: Apparently someone thinks I am too subtle with my sarcasm.

A long-range weapon is generally preferred against an elite bounty hunter and a squad of stormtroopers with some Imperial commanders.

Meh, Obi Wan himself used the weapon, who is he to criticize Luke?

But lightsabers can deflect blaster fire back at the shooters. And as we see in ROTJ and the PT, Jedi with lightsabers can easily defeat opponents armed with blasters.

Though I do acknowledge that Luke would have a harder time fighting Boba, even with a saber.

Yes, but Luke was hardly well enough trained for THAT. He was no Mace Windu at that point, it took him a year to get that good.

Oddly enough, he never actually uses that blaster.

Luke greatly improved his jedi skills by practicing on his own between ESB and RotJ. In ESB, he wasn't good enough to deflect blaster shots or fight against many armed enemies with only his lightsaber. But as we see, he has reached this level by RotJ.

because hes been shooting stuff his whole life in planes and possibly is more experienced with a blaster at this point, therefore feels safer with it.

A lightsaber isn't worth jack squat against an enemy outside your 'chop-various-objects' range.

    "He could have thrown it"

No. That might have hit "one" stormtrooper, and then he was virtually weaponsless and would have got shot by an anyonomous stormtrooper the next second :p

Have you even seen the PT? Or even RotJ :p

I think you mean it's not worth jack squat unless you are an experienced jedi, which Luke obviously wasn't in ESB
