Why don't we call our icons, avatars...

...like every single other forum in the NET? The "icon" is no more than an avatar.

Icon is a nice, short word. Why type in avatar when you can save yourself two letters?

It's funny, an avatar is basically a likeness of a person...so the original idea of having an avatar on the Net was to have a picture (or whatever) that looked like the user.

These days, of course, a lot of people pick icons even if they don't look anything like them. I don't think there are that many 2ft green frog creatures around the world with access to the JC, but there sure are a lot of Yoda icons.

So icons kinda makes more sense...

Another distinction is that Avatars on the net can move where as the word Icon implies a painting or image. Since none of the pictures here are allowed to have motion, the word Icon is actually more descriptive.
