Okay I guess what I am trying to say is that I want to see Near-Future military epics about fighting Iran, North Korea, China, or hell even Russia along with a large helping of historical and modern military films.

Act of Valor: I agree with you.
Zero Dark Thirty: More of a espionage movie.
Red Tails: Like said WWII era is over-done.
    Battleship: [face_rofl]
    Red Dawn remake: Meh.
Battle Los Angeles: Too many aliens.

How do I make sure I am not "sullied" like that?

Have not seen it but will make sure to do so.

How 'bout Windtalkers? It's the greatest military movie known to man for one important reason.

So, wars that aren't going to happen?

You understand that the CoD universe's conflicts are disastrously stupid, right? Why is "Ultranationalist Russia" idealizing communism and the USSR? DO THEY NOT KNOW WHAT ULTRANATIONALISM MEANS? CAUSE IT CERTAINLY DOESN'T MEAN THE USSR. Russia sneaking an ENTIRE FLEET over to the US and then attacking Manhattan? How does Russia invade all of Europe at once?

The only good part of Enemy at the Gates was near the beginning where it portrayed the battle. I'd like to see this. I think I've only seen... two Eastern Front films.
Well, throughout most of the Cold War the Red Army/Warsaw Pact was pretty much guaranteed to steamroll the numerically inferior NATO forces in Western Europe in the event of a fullscale conflict, so it's not that implausible. :p But yeah, CoD is pretty dumb.

While that's true, I don't think they could, today, pull that off, while doing what I consider the larger offense, SNEAKING AN ENTIRE FLEET FROM RUSSIA TO NEW YORK

On a tangential topic, I've discovered that the next CoD game has South America invading the US, so there's that.

I've never played more than a few games of CoD (and they were multiplayer, not the single-player campaign), but, yeah, I'm pretty sure the point is to make exciting scenarios, however unlikely they may be, and to hell with justification or plausibility.

Back in my day CoD was an exceptionally well done WW2 shooter amidst an unsurmountable barrage of mediocre games set during the conflict, and we had to walk 15 miles uphill in the snow both ways to get to our PCs to play it.

WW2 is so overdone Gordon Ramsay sent it back. Other wars have existed. How about a DnD-Kotor-ish RPG during the Napoleonic Wars?

I'll tell you one thing epics aren't, and that's jingoistic chest-thumping rubbish. The two films I mentioned are epics, while faux-inspirational redneck-fests aren't. But then I guess I should have had a clue about what kind of movies you were after when you mentioned CoD...

Is The Hurt Locker a military film, a PTSD film, or a film about addiction?

Since this thread is useless in its current state why don't we just make it a thread about the discussion of the military genre?

Oh you're 13? Jesus. Okay then. You should be playing some fantasy games to enrich your imagination and get you to think instead of military based watered down garbage. Or if you must have your warfare, do it in Civilization style.
