George is a genius and has created a classic series...so lets keep it that way! Some high tech is great but to much is...too much! Where's the Yoda puppet...is it retired??? Use it..if i wanted to see a green dude animated..i got Shrek! Lets get back to the realism! The digital aspect is just not right
for this movie either...maybe if it would of been made with realism of the first two and half of the first three...Ewoks....it would of been OK but with all the high tech it was like watching another version of A.I.! I want to feel the planets! I felt like i was on Tatooine! It was cold on Hoth! I just didnt feel it from this one! Question...what was happening with 3po's head! Keep it attached! And who's the kid selling the sticks at the bar? Lucas...was that your nephew?? All this aside Lucas is still King and I still liked the movie...But let's not make the little mistakes again...please! Keep it real! This third chapter is important!

CG Yoda was better than the puppet. It could portray more emotion on his face and better movement.

[Lucas' secretary]I'm sorry, Mr. Lucas is a little busy making two of the most highly anticipated sequels of all time. Please put your fanboy rants in the box marked "Trash" in the Denny's parking lot across the street. You have 3 seconds to get off the property before we have security escort you out.[/Lucas' secretary]

Now you've gone and angered the security force!

Personal note: While I like CG yoda, the puppet was much better for closeups and emotion. However, it would simply be impossible to do the fight scene that they did with a puppet.

I loved the yoda puppet! I miss it so much :( I understand that it couldn't be used in the fight scene (Though that would have been pretty funny :p ) but why for the whole movie? Why? WHY?!!

    Ehh...don't answer that... :D

The guy selling deathsticks was the same guy who played Mouse in The Matrix. No relation to Lucas.

CG Yoda looked great. For long stretches I didn't think of him as CG or anything like that. He seemed to really be in the room, interacting with the other characters. Same with the CG clonetroopers (that still astounds me that they're all CG; they look so real!)

And if Lucas just made Yoda CG in the fight scene and made it a puppet for the rest of the movie, then the medium switch would be obvious and people would complain about that.

Actually, they tried to use the puppet for the fight scene but his skills were sadly lacking and he left himself wide open one too many times as this AOTC still from a cut scene clearly shows. :D

To me the fact that the yoda puppet is gone is very disturbing, actually daaangerous and disturbing.and well, very sad

how can one of our favorite charachters,YODA! who was brought to life in the way of 'yoda puppet' be scrapped,SCRAPPED people.and the great mastery of frank oz replaced by rob coleman, very sad in my opinion

digital yoda was extremely good, and definatly appropriate in certain areas(physical performance)but to you people who defend digital yoda without question, realize that although oz supply'd the voice it was rob colemans yoda and not frank oz's.and that my friends to any real star wars fan who has the saga beating in their chest every day, is deeply troubling.

So let me get this straight you're deeply troubled by the fact that Yoda wasn't a puppet in AOTC. Really?!? ?[face_plain]

I thought Yoda was done well but I am a little worried that in three films he's a little static and suddendly he's all moving in EpII. Continuity?

As for backgrounds I agree that CGI is sometimes not very life-like. A real location shoot is so much better in many ways.

Other than some of the skin "texture" around Yoda's ears, I was hard pressed to tell the difference between the digital and the puppet versions of Yoda. The digital Yoda even faithfully reproduced the expressions and the movement of the puppet.

I just do not understand all the hysteria in this forum about the CG in AOTC. I can usually understand where people are coming from in their criticisms of the film except in the area of FX.

Frank Oz had no problems with the digital Yoda. He appreciated it, and thought it looked great. If Frank Oz likes it, than who are we to complain?

Slave 2-you say "digital yoda can display more emotion and better movement"
    thats obsurd.
More emotion than TESB yoda, uhh i dont think so my friend not even close, the empire yoda -IS- yoda, there shouldn't be no substitute to begin with.if you want to talk inconsistancy how about a different yoda from one movie to the next.
and as far as better facial movement, why the hell would we WANT any.the puppet -is- yoda and should always be! instead we get yoda from coleman and a team of animators and they'r mousepads instead of a "raw" "real" performance from the man who gave us this magic to begin with dammit.
i actually found some of the mouth movement to look quit fake, overdone, too much movement.in the OT yoda's lips didnt always match the words but i find thats the way yoda talks, man REALISM! I dont want to see yoda's TONGUE for chrissakes thats going too far.

If epIIIs story basically involves OBI ani, padme and yoda like george has said in the past, for the love of god and the true star wars fans, give us back the real yoda

I didnt mind the CGI yoda but believed for most scenes a puppet would have been better.

Imagine ESB with a CGI yoda.

    Wrong isnt it?

"DARK SCORE, why do i get the feeling your some teenager who knows nothing about the saga"

What does being a teenager have to do about it? Just because someone is a teenager, they can't know anything about the saga?

Actually, Darth Abdul, I agree. I mean, I'm deeply troubled about starving children in Ethiopia, or the growing situation in Isreal. Yoda is rather low on my "deeply troubled" priority list.

Why wouldn't frank oz like the digital yoda,it was extremely well done, but well done on a computer and well done by a actor behind a tangable touchable 'yoda puppet' are two different things.

    It's simple.

George wanted Yoda to fight in Ep2 - something a puppet cannot do. Agreed?

Therefore, going the CGI route to make the fight work required the character's "look and feel" remain consistent for the entire movie.

CGI Yoda looked good, great in some shots, but I really wished they had mixed animatronics and cgi like in Jurassic Park. Now that they can digitize out cables in the puppet they could have done some incredible stuff with Yoda and not had to worry about hiding all the controls. Anyway, the only reason anyone cares is because we grew up on the puppet. I don't see anyone screaming to have Watto be done with puppetry
