No, his success raised his arrogance and caused his downfall. It's quite reasonable.
Watching Jedi with a critic's eye, I can see why it is considered the weakest entry of the OT. Rehashed attack on the Death Star plot, Rehashed locales, Dagobah, Tatooine.....it just doesn't seem as fresh, original or immediate as the first two. However, this is always my favorite one to pop in and watch on a rainy day (or a sunny one....it doesn't really matter..). I would watch the last 20-30 minutes of Jedi over any other 20-30 minutes of of the whole saga..... Pure magic.....
I also love the entire Jabba sequence, i always found the rescue of Han to be another awesome 30 minutes.....
The only explanation that works for me is that Luke = weakness for both Vader and the Emperor.
I like ROTJ a lot. It's #2 on my list behind ESB.
It's a good movie in general but compared to the original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back it sucks because:
it rehashed Tattooine instead of using the opportunity to introduce a new world
it rehashed Luke and Leia's swinging scene
it rehashed the Death Star
it turned Boba Fett into a waste of a character
regardless of these issues, it is still better than Revenge Of the Sith and a MILLION times better than the other two prequels.
No, Luke is not the weakness of the Emperor, arrogance and overconfidence is, he didn't misjudge Luke much, Vader was the one he truly misjudged.
Exactly, although Luke did help Vader to become Anakin again. Luke was right, Palpatine's overconfidence was his weakness.
Ewoks taking down the Imperials was lame. The Empire just genuinely being ineffective was lame as hell.
It just seemed to lack content. ESB was filled up with Yoda and all his wisdom. ANH felt like a non-stop adventure but still had a bit of content.
RotJ felt kind of empty with Yoda and Ben dead. The Vader vs Luke duel was awesome though, and everthing beginning with Vader's turn and after is pure cinematic gold.
2nd favorite after ESB.
I picked the knife up during the first two lines and put it down after the last two.
Its competition is the original Star Wars and the best Star Wars. Pretty stiff opposition...
You're just talking about the first film/ANH by itself there, right? No need to be redundant.....
As soon as I posted that I knew someone would respond like that! Personally, whether I'm being redundant or not depends on my mood...
I am irrationally nostalgic for anything OT. You can bash the PT to hell and back, but be careful on the OT.
I'm just kidding. I don't really care. Well, I do a little, I guess. Not so much to stab you, but I might pull your arms out of their sockets. Crazy OT enthusiasts are known to do that.
No, only competition it has is ESB, ANH was voted out a long time ago
It can never be voted out as the original, my friend.
the framework was in place to make ROTJ the greatest movie ever but it suffered due to lazy writing, a yes Mr. Lucas director, & a lack of modern tech which would have enabled them to feature the final battle above the Wookie homeworld instead of Endor sparing us the ewoks.......still it had moments of greatness that live in cinema history !!
"I'll take "Movies from 1977 that were nominated for Best Picture", Alex!!!" -
eh I like ROTJ,
it introduced the frickin Emperor
and before anyone says the old woman with monkey pasted eyes was the emperor"
I'd just like to say,
The ROTJ Emperor was definitely the whole package.
there is only one Emperor
Palpatine wasn't bad in ROTS, but I can't think of a single flaw in ROTJ. In ROTS he did the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis and his little speech to Vader to destroy the Jedi on Coruscant were both good but his appearance in ROTS seemed fake compared to ROTJ and his cackling did get annoying.
PT Palpatine is more interesting than the OT one.
PT Palpatine fleshed out the character but OT Palpatine was better overall.
