By Luke choosing to "sacrifice himself", do you mean that Luke surrenders his fate to the hands of his father? What do you mean by that? If everyone is completely good and noble, yes, that is not entirely natural but I fail to see then why the Force needs to pump out a powerful figure to kill those good and noble men. How evil or how good people want to live is up to them. If "too much light" causes imbalance, why does the Force need to be balanced?

Luke chooses to stop fighting his father and Palpatine. He chooses to throw away his only defense against Palpatine and is essentially giving up his life. As to the rest, the thing with the Chosen One is that we don't know that the Force created him on its own. Palpatine tells Anakin that a Sith Lord had the ability to create life by manipulating the Midichlorians. So we are left to decide on that matter. All that is known for certain is that Anakin brings balance in ROTJ. The Force needs to be balanced because that is the nature of things. The Force is nature. It is a Living Force. As Lucas said, there is a light and a dark side and both need to be there and both need to be in balance.

So how do you think Anakin did bring balance in ROTJ? By destroying himself and Emperor Palpatine while saving Luke, the Empire falls apart. The New Republic is formed. Darth Vader is no more, and we see a redeemed Anakin as a Force spirit alongside Yoda and Obi-Wan. Luke is now the only known Jedi or Sith. So didn't Anakin bring balance in ROTJ by getting rid of evil in the galaxy so that the light remains?

The Force needs to be balanced because that is the "nature of things"? What's wrong with going against nature and doing our own things as long as we're not harming it? If I drink something with artificial flavours, nature won't care.

Again, balance isn't in the number of Jedi and Sith that are around. The dark side exists in everyone, as does the light. Some have more than others in them. Some give into the dark side and they are people like Jabba, Nute Gunray, Wilhuff Tarkin and Cad Bane. Those who don't surrender to the dark side are people like Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, Padme Amidala and Bail Organa. When Anakin destroys the Sith, the dark side goes back to where it was before the balance was lost. Light and dark. Yin and Yang. A push-pull tension.

As to the second part, Lucas said it best...

"I would like to see our society mature, and become more rational and more knowledge-based, less emotion-based. I'd like to see education play a larger role in our daily lives, have people come to a larger understanding—a “bigger picture” understanding—of how we fit into the world, and how we fit into the universe. Not necessarily thinking of ourselves, but thinking of others.

Whether we're going to accomplish this, I'm not sure. Obviously, people have a lot of different dreams of where America should be, and where it should fit into things. Obviously, very few of them are compatible, and very few of them are very compatible with the laws of nature. Human nature means battling constantly between being completely self-absorbed and trying to be a communal creature. Nature makes you a communal creature. The ultimate single-minded, self-centered creature is a cancer cell. And mostly, we're not made up of cancer cells.

If you put that notion on a larger scale, you have to understand that it's a very cooperative world, not only with the environment, with but our fellow human beings. If you do not cooperate, if you do not work together to keep the entire organism going, the whole thing dies, and everybody dies with it. That's a law of nature, and it's existed forever. We're one of the very few creatures that has a choice, and can intellectualize the process.

Most organisms either adapt and become part of the system, or get wiped out. The only thing we have to adapt to the system with is our brain. If we don't use it, and we don't adapt fast enough, we won't survive."

--George Lucas, Academy of Achievement Interview, 1999.

Nature doesn't care if you treat your body like crap, but your body does care. Hence why people should try to live and eat in a healthy lifestyle, so that they can gain the most out of their life. Someone who doesn't will ultimately have a shorter lifespan.

You just said that balance isn’t in the number of Jedi and Sith that are around… so why does Anakin destroying the Sith revert the state of the dark side to going back to where it was before the balance was lost?

In that quote, George Lucas mentioned that human nature is a constant battle between “being completely self-absorbed and trying to be a communal creature”. He says that “nature makes you a communal creature”, this is representative of the light side. He also says that “the ultimate single-minded, self-centered creature is a cancer cell. And mostly, we’re not made up of cancer cells”. So the dark side is like a cancer cell - that’s the opposite of balance, rather it imbalances. The human body normally and optimally functions without these cancer cells.

But if you do take excellent care and lead a healthy lifestyle, your body runs optimally in its functions. So how does the light side imbalance the Force?

Because the Sith are like a cancer that is corrupting the relationship between the Republic, the Jedi and the Force. The latter three are like a symbiant circle, each one relying on the other to make the whole system work. You introduce cancer into a living being and the healthy cells become cancerous cells and eventually, the person will die if nothing is done to try and stop that. The light can only cause imbalance if people don't behave in a normal manner. Think of it as people who don't protect themselves from certain illnesses. We inoculate ourselves against the flu, pneumonia, the mumps and so on. Without that inoculation, we're not prepared for the disease when it hits. So we have no defense.

Because people are forever filled with the darker sides of life, the kind of imbalance that would come from too much light won't ever come to pass.

So let me get this straight: you're saying that the Sith was ruining the balance of the Force in the prequel trilogy. So the Chosen One destroying the Sith at the end of the sequel trilogy restored balance.

Yet fans say that the PT Jedi Order was ruining the balance of the Force and it was the emergence of the Sith restored it. When the scales tipped towards the dark in the original trilogy, the Sith became the new group to cause the imbalance and the Chosen One had to destroy the Sith.

We do inoculate ourselves against the flu to prepare ourselves for the disease when it hits, but we don't need to have an equal distribution of optimal health and the disease.

If what you say about too much light won't ever coming to pass, why does the Father say that "too much light would be the undoing of life as you know it"?

I didn't say that the Jedi were ruining the balance to the Force. The Sith were the ones causing the imbalance, not the Jedi. I was saying that if the Jedi were to cause an imbalance by producing too much of the light, then that would be problematic akin to not being ready for when things do go bad. The Father was making a point that the Force needs to be balanced because neither side can or should ever have a complete dominance. They need to be continually in opposition to each other.

Lucas is the one who says that the Sith are the problem, not the Jedi.

"If good and evil are mixed things become blurred - there is nothing between good and evil, everything is gray. In each of us we to have balance these emotions, and in the Star Wars saga the most important point is balance, balance between everything. It is dangerous to lose this. In The Phantom Menace one of the Jedi Council already knows the balance of the Force is starting to slip, and will slip further. It is obvious to this person that the Sith are going to destroy this balance. On the other hand a prediction which is referred to states someone will replace the balance in the future. At the right time a balance may again be created, but presently it is being eroded by dark forces."

--George Lucas, Cut Magazine Interview, 1999.

"The sad thing is Padme says there is still good in him and Luke says in ROTJ there is good in you. Its recurring. There is good in him. And that will bring balance to the Force. He needs to get rid of the Sith and bring balance to the Force."

    --George Lucas, ROTS DVD Commentary.

"The thing of it is: The prophecy was right. Anakin was the chosen one, and he does bring balance to the Force. He takes the one ounce of good still left in him and destroys the Emperor out of compassion for his son."

--George Lucas, The Making Of Revenge Of The Sith; page 221.

"I think it is obvious that [Qui-Gon] was wrong in Episode I and made a dangerous decision, but ultimately this decision may be correct. The “phantom menace” refers to the force of the dark side of the universe. Anakin will be taken over by dark forces which in turn destroy the balance of the Galaxy, but the individual who kills the Emperor is Darth Vader—also Anakin. The tale meanders and both the prediction and Qui-Gon are correct—Anakin is the chosen one, and he did bring peace at last with his own sacrifice. Luke couldn't kill the Emperor himself, but he could make Anakin reflect on his life and kill the Emperor."

--George Lucas, Cut Magazine interview, 1999.

Ergo, the Sith disrupt the balance in the PT. Anakin restores it in the OT. The Ren are trying to disrupt the balance again, but Rey and Luke will need to stop them in the ST.

balance is good and evil. the sith are extra evil and shift the balance into darkness. thusly, to balance the force you must destroy the sith.

The Father said a very important thing about the balance of the Force.

The Son also points out that the Dark can't be exist without the Light, or vice-versa. And there is also a balance within.

As far as I see, there should be always %50 Dark and %50 Light, that's the thing about the balance...

Would like to hear your views on this. Why is 75% light and 25% dark a bad thing? Why is having more light than the dark undesirable that the Force will try to balance itself?

İt takes both... You can use little dark side but also you need to use little light side, or vice versa... Balance requires equality for both sides of the Force.

Why would you want balance in the Force, why would you want equality between both sides of the Force? Whether a person uses the dark side or the light side is up to them.

Yep, they can use too much light, or too much dark, with that you will have unbalanced Force. No one said you can't use too much light or dark, it's said that if you do that you will make things unbalanced, that's all. By its nature, Force has two sides ; Dark and Light, you can't use too much the one without the other. That's the trick. Even in real life, humans are not pure good, or not pure evil.... And you can't see in a very bright light since it will hurt your eyes, or you can't see in a pitch dark since there is nothing to see, you need both the light and the dark to see things clearly.

I don't think so. Most of the old EU didn't talk much about the balance of the Force, in the years prior to and after Anakin Skywalker's lifetime.

If there is no balance in the Force, then you're left with this...

The father said that too much light or dark will be the un-doing of what Star Wars universe they had there ; but un-doing means ?
Too much dark will bring destruction to Star Wars universe .
But too much light, will not bring destruction to Star Wars universe. Will bring a serious change to how Star Wars universe was.

The reason I ask this is to understand how both "too much light" and "too much dark" is bad for the Star Wars universe.

Those following examples are what happens when dark side wielders tried to take over the galaxy, thus causing an imbalance in the Force.

For us to understand fully why "too much light" is destructive for the Force and the galaxy, we need an example at some point in the countless years that have passed in the Star Wars universe.

Let's compare this to another Disney-owned property: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The supervillains commit crimes, the superheroes stop the crimes. If the supervillains cause too much trouble, society will collapse and the world will fall into anarchy. Now how are the superheroes bad for the world? They are the ones to stop the crimes, something that doesn't hurt people or society!

I thought this point was clarified well enough going back to even Attack of the Clones regarding the catch 22 in which the Jedi find themselves when determining whether or not to disclose to the Senate their limited information on the Kamino cloning facility.

Too much light is also not good, it will be also wars and unending conflict, and that will make things mixed, Daughter was a strong light side user and she was unable to see things clearly until Obi-Wan warned her... Just as jedi council were blind too see the corruption in the senate...

I can only take "too much light" as meaning that there'd be so much selflessness that people would stop caring about themselves. They'd seek only to please others and wear themselves out in the process. Especially since noone would care to be pleased. Slowly but surely, life would wane, pleasure would become a distant memory and the Force would be VERY weak.

IOW, a little bit of selfishness is good. It's an essential part of life. So be moderately greedy, people!

What Obi Wan has proposed,to kill the son, using that dagger proves to be actually an inspiration that came from the dark side, later.
Because the son takes the dagger and when he takes it he says " Everything that has transpired has done so, according to my design".

If there was only light we'd become oblivious to darkness. We all need the contrast to be able to make a distinction between "good" and "bad".

The examples we see every day on the news remind us how much "bad" there is in our world. Without these examples we'd be unable to adjust our moral compass.

Besides, we all carry dark side tendencies inside us. In that regard the final TCW episodes of Season Six were a highlight to me, illustrating how Yoda dealt with his own inner demons.

That was Daughter's mistake she should fight against him from the beginning without using the dagger.
