After skimming what there was of this thread yesterday I decided to give it a go last night. I'm a bit sleep-deprived but it was worth it, and I'm only four episodes in.

    ... and, done.

Good stuff, all the way to the end. Definite ending, with room for a sequel - best way to end it (especially since it's already set up for a second season....)

****ing love this show. Two episodes left and it's killing me that it'll soon be over.

Great casting, especially for the kids. Love Eleven. Teen are about what you'd expect, but fun enough.

Plot is standard Spielberg mixed with Stephen King, but the Duffer brothers make admirable attempts to turn a lot of the cliches on their heads.

Awesome soundtrack. Steve's Hair. Just so much to love.

Two episodes to go but I agree it's been fantastic

And of all the 80's tropes in the series my favorite might be the return of kids who are foul mouthed

After completing this last night I am going to subject my young children to Poltergeist this weekend because I'm an awful parent by today's standards. In the 80's I would have been considered overprotective.

After finishing it, I couldn't disagree more on it relying too much on Spielbergian nostalgia. I liked it more because of that. The nostalgia only added to it for me.

I'm stunned. This show is borderline perfect. Season 2 Fargo good, except maybe they've nailed the period setting and genre beats better than anything I've ever seen. It's more authentically dated than Close Encounters of the Third Kind or Goonies. There's no conceivable way this show could have been made without a time machine. I hope everyone watching understands that supernatural forces were at work in the production of this show.

Really, the only thing that spoils the setting a bit is that Winona Ryder has learned how to act.

why not watch what daveed has assured me (and i can already tell) is one of the major influences on the show: the anime series Elfen Lied?

pick an account and stick with it, bro

but yeah, its totally there. i keep quoting Elfen Lied to myself during the scenes with Eleven (elven? elfen? i see what they did there). still, if they wanna really pay homage to elfen lied (or Lynn Okamoto's other work, such as Gokukoku no Brynhildr), they need to crank up the grueling ultraviolence committed almost fetishistically against young women by young women

I really enjoyed it a lot, the only criticism I have is after all that build up it seemed like it finished too quickly and without as much of a pay off as it deserved. After 6 or 7 episodes it still felt like there was so much to go and then it was done. Didn't seem like there was a proper 'bad guy finale'. However besides that everything else was great, acting and soundtrack particularly.

i really like the casting, how they've managed to make sure all but a handful of people are hideously weird looking, just like in a real 80s movie! im particularly intrigued by discount-bin andrew garfield

appropos of nothing: matthew "mo money" modine

Finally finished last night. Loved this show so much. I'm been looking for something really good, something that would really impress me, for a while, and this did the trick.

Some nice set up for a second season.

I'd bet on some Glode and Emmy wins next year. Ryder will probably be a front runner.

    Seconded.

Also, speaking of seconds, I'm seriously considering a second viewing instead of attempting to watch Penny Dreadful which I understand has some....merit. I agree with epic 's assessment about the finale but I think the set-up for a second season is perfect and they'd be fools not to produce one. Oh, and Winona Ryder? Total redemption.
