    EDIT: so that's primarily the issue. In order to deal with spam (the REAL kind -- not the "spam vs. fluff" argument), we have to have some mechanism in place in order to respond in a timely manner. Letting spammers (real ones) and trolls and spoiler-hounds go out and spam, troll or ruin unspoil't people on the boards would be counter-productive to a friendly atmosphere.
