ST Why isn't Force Awakens being marketed as Episode 7?

None of the promotional material (that I've seen) even has that phrase. Is there any negative stigma from the prequels? Are they trying to establish themselves as a separate entity from the 2 trilogies? What are your thoughts?

The OT was never marketed with episode numbers until the prequels came out. The only reason the PT was marketed with episode numbers was to show they were prequels. It wasn't a very common concept at the time.

I think it may be as simple as a way to say 'Different Owners' on the new materials.

    Because it's effectively a reboot.

I asked this same question on here last month and was given the same type of answers in this thread. But those answers don't completely put me at ease with absence of "Episode 7" in the marketing. Yes the episodes weren't included in the marketing of the originals, but if they were included in the prequels marketing then why not in the sequels ? I can't help but be at least a little uneasy about this. But as long as "Episode 7" is at the top of the opening crawl I will be fine with it.

What about this makes you uneasy? What do you think is going to happen that will be detrimental to the film if it's not sold with the episode number in the commercials or on the posters?

Star Wars was sold to the world just fine without any episode numbers in the marketing for almost 25 years. Why is such a prospect ominous now?

    No. It's a sequel.
