Oceania Why Isn't there an Australia day thread

This is the country's national Holiday. Why isn't there a thread about it.

This is my favorite holiday of the year. A chance to get together with friends, chuck some meat on the BBQ and play some backyard cricket while holding a stubbie.

Yeah...actually, I did none of the above...maybe I'm not from around here...

But, it is a good day. Any public holiday is good for me, because it means I don't have to go to work...

 

I was watching the Australi vs Sri Lanka match, but it's a bit slow.

And as for the skyshow....

I did wear the green and gold as work all week, so there's me being patriotic.

 

I bulled the other Aussie mods - Hawk and BoogieMan - into turning their colours green'n'gold for the day!

Being truly Australian is being so apathetic about it that we aren't patriotic. It's the greatest country on Earth, but honestly, there isn't a need to get all that fired about it. As one radio DJ team over here put it: "Australia Day is about going in a Korean car to an Irish pub to have a Belgian beer, stopping in on the way home to buy a Palestinian kebab or American fast food, going home to watch an English sport on a Japanese television ... and being suspicious of foreigners."

SoE, from what I hear Perth's the only city that actually concentrates on fireworks for Australia Day. I'm sure they were better than Melbourne's.

 

Either way, it was all bollocks.
And ofcourse, as always, the news reports it as another successfull Australia Day with no major incidents.

I felt it would have been unnecesary.

 

I went for a walk along the harbour foreshore from The Harbourview Hotel under the Harbour Bridge round the Quay to Bennelong Pt, round Farm Cove to Mrs Macquarie's Chair to Woolloomooloo for one of Harry's pie and peas.

Can't get any more Aussie than that.

 

That sounds like fun, actually...I did that about a month ago.
