Why no Y -Wings? (ROTS spoiler maybe)

After years of the EU being filled with "Z-95s! These outlaw smugglers are using Z-95s! This hard-up Rebel group is using Z-95s! Uh-oh, are those pirates flying that squadron Z-95s? I need to escape this crime lord's lair, hey guess what's in the hanger? A Z-95! Here comes this planet's defense force in their shiny Z-95s!", I was quite happy NOT to see Headhunter fighters in the prequels. Never have I been more tired of a letter and two numbers.

I just saw that new expanded Y-Wing design today, and it's awesome. I wish the ships in the prequels could have been more of that, OT like with a bit of newish flair.

 

Yeah, like, instead of X-Wings, they could have used Z-95's!

 

There's a little blurb about the "fully faired" Y-Wing on the official star wars blog. Russel Chong discussed how he back-engineered the design to fit the clone wars style.
