Star wars was a dead franchise, It's been revived since 2012. Get with the program or go cry in the corner with your VHS trilogy box set and your star wars lunch box from 1977.

I was 8 when episode 1 came out and at the time I really appreciated Star Wars, not at all today. I watched this new one and while watching it at times I really cringed, it is truly a terrible movie, I feel about the same about this new Star Wars movie as I did about the hobbit movies. Yes it has lightsabers and space ships but it lacks about everything else that made star wars great. I will list huge issues with this movie first then I'll comment on why Star Wars is officially done, as in they'll be even more mainstream and become just another series of blockbuster movies like all the superhero movies coming out. Nothing special about them, they're just that an excuse to eat popcorn.

Problems with the force awakens:
•All the characters look like very young adults or teenagers. Realistically I don't think the leader over an entire galactic empire would be a hipster kid with a Haloween mask stumbling around and having fits when things don't go his way with his lightstick. The nazi general guy also looks very young, not very manly, they could be my neighbours there's nothing authoritative about them, realistically they should probably be flipping hamburgers on some local star wars mcdonalds. Where is the Darth Maul of the force awakens, where is the Count Dooku, where is the strong male evil genius. This feels very much like a coming of age teen flick with hipster guys and gals growing into their shoes. It makes zero sense that a huge nazi empire would look up to these guys.

•The black guy and his new found buddy the pilot whose name I have forgotten because he is not really relevant at all. They're not very interesting characters in my opinion nor very funny, I wouldn't mind some male swashbucklers but they seem kind of bland. Obi Wan and Anakin had chemistry in the prequels, these guys are just awkward, it's also obvious that they made the guy a black guy because of diversity, some farm boy like young luke would probably somehow feel more right teaming up with this heroine. It just overall feels awkward, this young trio, the pilot the stormtrooper and the scavenger girl, they could be done much better. I don't know if acting is to blame, or dialouge, I think cutting away Finn and the pilot and concentrate on Rey would focus the plot lens.

•Practical effects over special effects, as I said I grew up with the prequels and I grew accustomed to the interesting looking planets and locations, every place looked unique, very spacy. All the planets in this new movie look like earth, no odd looking plants, no fancy architecture, the storm troopers actually running around on an artificial looking set made me think of cosplayers. Just seems corny, especially with the hipster villain and the awkward trio relationship I spoke of earlier. The little Yoda gal with the glasses also seemed a bit, I don't know bland, I am wise look at me I got this lightsaber for you blah blah. Yoda had personality, as had most wise guys in the prequels, this creature feels like a careless cartoon. I remember this line "those beasts are here", I don't think this is what any great jedi master would say, Qui Gonn, Yoda, Master Windu, all would be rather serious in such a situation, calm and collected. She seemed carless, I also got a vain vibe from that creature, definitely the kind of alien that sits in front of a mirror playing with makeup or drinking green tea. I think actually the character I liked the most was the guy Rey traded with on the desert planet. That alien there had more depth than all other characters I felt, he seemed real sinister.

•The story in general, could they really not have been a bit more creative than remaking the first old star wars movie and make everything bigger and more politically correct. The planet death star weapon realistically makes zero sense, "when the star goes out they're read to fire the weapon", if the star dies you die dumbo. Couldn't they at least follow some 3rd grade science when designing this thing. I don't like the story at all, i even skipped some moments of the film because I simply didn't care to waste a minute watching it, specifically the minutes after they had blown up the planet, everyone hugging and mingling with each other. I'm not invested and I don't care so I skipped that part, I must admit something I rooted for the snoke character. He seemed like the only character that I could to some level relate to, because I also wanted to see the stupid protagonists dead. The most forgiving character is Rey, I actually like her, she seems a bit too powerful but I like that she is our main character. But she needed better conversations with her fellow actors, Han Solo had decent chemistry with her but not that great.

Now why do I think Star Wars is dead, it's simply broken, they made 6 movies they all tied together quite nicely but this last one feels like because it's made today and not 5 years ago or 5 years from now it's a specific way. Politically correct movie, all the female characters are uber powerful all the male characters are dumbasses. The villains are feminine hipster boys who have zero control of their emotions, lashing out like a woman on her period about everything going wrong. Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Count Dooku all kept their cool. Anakin losing control was more fitting in the last of the three prequel movies, this villain just seems weak, it would easily be possible to create a more convincing villain. He could still have been the son of Leia and Han, but more strength into him please, most of the time he looked like a victim.

Then we got the black guy and the I guess hispanic guy? Minorities represent, yo. I don't actually mind it but when it's obvious that it's done because of political correctness I think it's in bad taste. Come to think of it, I didn't really buy the villain to be the son of Han, they look nothing alike. The guy is clearly hispanic or of middle eastern decent, makes me think Leia was unfaithful. One last thing to comment on is how unserious the entire universe seem, there is little back story to the universe they're in. In the prequels we saw gungans, people from a desert planet, people living on naboo fearing the trade federation, various cultures and people everywhere. The force awakens universe seems empty, it's too character driven and the setting don't seem to matter. It's as if all people partaking in the movie are just having a private screw around game while the grown up civilizations around the galaxy are busy doing grown up stuff, huge armies, great wars, building high ways and great skyscrapers, bounty hunters, criminality. All this stuff that exists in civilizations the movie seems to have no hint at, why are we suppose to care about some black storm trooper and his little friend. Aren't there really any more interesting stories to be talked about in this huge universe, all these great civilizations and peoples. The gungan city alone in episode one had more interesting qualities to it than all the organizations or civilizations we saw in this movie.
These new movies won't be classics, they'll be pumped out like marvel superhero movies. Now Star wars is just one ****** bland sci fi franchaise among many. I look forward way more to independence day 2 and prometheus 2 or avatar than these new ****** star wars movies. Ends the rant, peace star wars fans, oh and I'm not biased, this is probably as objective a critique you'll ever get from anyone since I'm not a fanboy.
