What I mean by this is that

Maul using a DOUBLE bladed saber
Dooku using a CURVED handle saber
Vader using his Jedi saber on III

    any thoughts?

They wanted to. Maul's double-bladed lightsaber was a tribute to Exar Kun and Dooku's curved blade was more traditional.

Because it's only the PT that we see a variety of Sith Lords. In the OT, Vader's the only one who whips out his lightsaber now and then, and it's much the same design as the one he used as Anakin, just with a red crystal. By the same logic, we see more Jedi with uniquely designed and colored lightsabers in the PT by grace of number alone.

Anakin uses his regular lightsaber in episode III because it's what he has on hand nor does he have the time to rebuild another one simply to turn evil.

In the Visual Dicitonary, it says Dooku used the curved saber to show how different he was than the rest of the Order.

yeah def. as symbol to show his indiviuality, even as a Sith, i think

i highly doubt, though, that the casual fan picked up on the curved hilt

Hm.....is it that it relates to the Jedi being traditional but the Sith growing and getting adapted to the new era?

I heard the Jedi used the same saber for millenia, but the Sith now use more varied

I don't have any books or read the EU T_T sorry fi im mistaken

I was discussing something closley related and I found out that the Jedi use double bladed lightsabers in training young Jedi at the temple. Jedi don't use the double bladed lightsaber because the Jedi see it as relying on the lightsaber instead of the Force.
Dooku's curved lightsaber is because he wanted to be individual. And in ROTS Anakin used his Jedi lightsaber because he turned and he was ordered to kill the Jedi and do other things, he couldn't of had any time to construct a new red lightsaber.

    Good Stuff

Because the Sith are compensating for...

The Jedi do not need to show of with fancy saber hilts like the Sith do.

I always figured Dooku used the curve handle to more closely match his lightsaber style. Dooku is an aristocrat, cultured. His style is closer to fencing than anything else. I always thought the curved handle allowed him to better utilize the fencing style.
