Why was it called 'The Phantom Meanace'

    why was ep1 called tpm? never really understood.

    As the posters below have indicated, the title refers to illusory threats versus real threats.

    The Republic thought that the Trade Federation was the menace, when in reality the Sith were. Hence the "Phantom" Menace.
