Why wasn't Shmi rescued from slavery long before AOTC?

    This bothers me so much. Why, after the battle on Naboo, when everyone is happy and safe, didn't Obi Wan and Anakin return to Tatooine to free Anakin's mother? They let her languish in slavery for years, and her son only came to her when he had horrible nightmares about her.

    Same reason they didn't take her in TPM, if she leaves the perimeter they'll blow her up! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!


    Also the Republic has no control over Tatoine so it would be a violation of soveiregnty.


    Besides all of that, Anakin was supposed to let go of all his attachment.
