I have theory on why we have never known what his species was and where it is from. They probably come from the Unknown Regions or even the Kathol Rift.

Yoda's race might even be from the Vong's home galaxy :p Yoda and Yaddle were on the last refugee ship and made thier way into the GFFA.

In other words, I have no idea :p

He's just a really old, really short human who stood too close to a nuclear reactor (hence the green-ness) and had an unfortunate industrial accident with a lightsabre (hence the three fingers). He then sued the Jedi Order and used to funds to fit out his holiday pad on Dagobah.

Even though this isnt official or canon there was a mentioning of yodas family in the Tales comics,"The one below" story which is about Yaddle mentions that yodas family is a village family and says that Yoda left them to live out a hermits life, i belive that their homeworld is remote and primitive thus not worth much attention in their galaxy.

Of course, considering all the other bat-eared aliens we've seen in SW, it could just as easily not be.

Can someone give us a direct quote from the Yaddle's Tales story? (It is, apparently, canon.)

    >No no I thought tales wernet canon,

Most aren't. This one, having been referenced in Cloak of Deception, is.

Actually, it's been noted, on the TOS questions pages, that the people who used the term canon in LFL, are throwing the wrong messages around(cerasi"There's been some confusion of late regarding the 'Infinities' symbol, and Star Wars Expanded Universe continuity in general. Terms like "canon" and "continuity" tend to get thrown around casually, which doesn't help at all."), when they should be saying continuity. And true policy is some in tales is part of continuity and others are outside of continuity:

cerasi:"In order to allow unlimited freedom of storytelling, the Infinities label has been placed on the anthology series, Star Wars Tales. This means that not only can the stories occur anywhere in the Star Wars timeline, but stories can happen outside continuity."

And the story in tales, according to dan wallace, while the basic story is valid, the way it was told, and the details in the in the comic are not. For the fact that some of the people on the council are there when they couldn't have been at that time. For instance, the later member of the council who was Yaddles padawan learner is shown in the scenes. When he couldn't have been there since he never got his padawan ship under her yet.

I know why they weren't introduced! They all have bad grammar, so all the Basic teachers in the galaxy banned together and....

Engaged in a galaxy shaking conflict...the Great Grammar War. For nigh on a millennium the Language Lords of Thesaurus waged unrelenting war on Yoda's people (the Yodese?). Vast library ships the size of cities sped through the eternal night to unload their payloads of dictionaries on Yodese colony worlds. But the Yodese fought back. Countless Thesauri perished as their atmospheres froze solid from the effects of the Yodese terror weapon, the Split Infinitive.

In a last desperate attempt to wipe the galaxy free of non-standard Basic, the Language Lords, in a suicidal kamikaze move unleashed the power of their Galactic Spellchecker (known to future generations as "Centerpoint Station") and in one terrible instant wiped out the entire sector of space ruled by the Thesauri Principate and the Union of Soviet Socialist Yodese forming the Maw cluster of black holes.

    So there.

A few Yodese tourists visiting Alderaan were all that were left of the Yodese race. The Thesauri survivors formed the Aiing-Tii order of monks. The REAL reason they don't like slavers and other such scum is 'cos chaps like that usually don't have much respect for the rules of Basic.

Makes a good story anyway :)

Regardless, the background given on Yoda and Yaddle in The One Below is probably valid. So what does it say?

And your last post is probably one of the funniest things I've read on this board, Aldaric. :)

Talon, just remember the One below Isn't accurate version of the story from any any sense of the word,.Dan Wallace said Elements break continuity. For instance Yaddle's future Padawan Apprentice is on the council, already a master. As well, other members are on the council that shouldn't be there at that point in time. So yes the storyframe might have happened, but the details are mixed up. As well, COD mentioned it, but said it was a Legend about yaddle, and implied it have not nescerrily happened, but maybe could have.

Still, the background info hasn't been contradicted, so it is the only thing we have to go on. Now what exactly does it say?

For instance, from what I remember talking with Dan Wallace, he said that Giett couldn't have been on the council at that time, by info told in JA and acts of war series.

As for yaddle's apprentice Oppo Rancisis couldn't have been on the council at that time. Just a few details are questionable.

As well take a look at the official star wars databanks have to say

"At 477 years of age during the Battle of Naboo, Yaddle was considered young for her species. Still, with over four centuries of living, many legends have arisen regarding the tiny Jedi Master. Tales are told of her former mentor, Polvin Kut, and how she was imprisoned for over a century on the world of Koba. Few know which of the many stories that propagate about Yaddle are true and which are pure legend.

Yaddle had trained many apprentices in her past, including fellow Council-member Oppo Rancisis. Yaddle's last known Padawan was the vain and confident Empatojayos Brand, whom Yaddle successfully trained to become a Jedi Knight.

Not as martial a figure as her fellow Council-members, Yaddle was the head of the Librarian's Assembly of the Jedi Temple, and worked alongside such revered Jedi scholars as Ashka Boda in maintaining the Temple's impressive collection of holocrons, scrolls and tomes. Exposure to obscure knowledge granted her powers that few can fathom, including the forbidden Jedi art of mortichro, a technique that rapidly slows the body functions of target beings.

When not on Coruscant, Yaddle resided at the Jedi training center at Kamparas, offering important lessons to initiates in the order."

This is how it was hinted at in the COD as well.

The problem comes that it might be valid, or it could be legend, and lfl has decided to keep that much of it ambigious.

Its all clear now...its just a cover up by the Jedi!!!

The Yodese are trying to take over the galaxy from within and they're using the Jedi as a front!!

Someone call Agent Scully and the other guy, the new one!

Just to be picky, the JA series says nothing about the possibility of Giett being on the Council at that time.

    >As for yaddle's apprentice Oppo Rancisis couldn't have been on the council at that time. Just a >few details are questionable.

Valiento, this is the third time you've pointed this out.

    >The problem comes that it might be valid, or it could be legend, and lfl has decided to keep that >much of it ambigious.

I am not arguing over whether or not the exact details fit, I just want the quote from the comic regarding Yoda and Yaddle's past that Mateo hinted at, and I don't want to wait three months for the TBP to come out. I apologize for my inaccurate statements regarding the complete authenticity of the story given in The One Below, but I'd really like the quote pertaining to this discussion, if you don't mind. :D
