The destruction didn't bother me in MoS. I was surprised they let it go that far in live action.

"I'd rather not have one. Literally every single modern movie has some sort of urban destruction" - are you certain?

    Apparently. What's your point though?

    Why were you surprised?

If you were forced to pick one planet to be destroyed in the ST, which would it be?

    Tatooine
    Naboo
    Coruscant

After Alderaan, a puny city is nothing. C'mon, pick!

If you pick Coruscant, you get a two-for-one... city and planet. I'll say Naboo, though, if I'm forced to choose from those three.

I think from an in the universe POV, Tatooine wouldn't be a big deal, it's far out on the rim and doesn't have any real bearing on the galaxy. For us as movie goers and for Luke it would of course have some impact, but I don't think that much. (Although we really didn't know Alderaan and that had an impact, so I guess it depends on how it's written.)
Coruscant would probably have too big of an impact in universe, though I guess that could be interesting.

But if forced to pick I would pick Naboo, mostly because it's the middle option in this scenario.

I like how we both picked Naboo for that reason. We essentially chose to end countless lives on a certain planet because we went with the "Other" option. :p

I say Mustafar, just so we can hear Luke say, "It was as if 16 voices cried out and were suddenly silenced".

No it isn't - it all in how the director, etc, does it

Regardless of that, you are aware of the thread title, right?

The topic is cities, not planets.

I am well aware, and I say we go forwards not backwards.

Just because they aren't blowing up planets does not mean that other forms are attacks are going "backwards" - that is a very narrow view - it is like saying there can't be a gunfight in Star Wars anymore because there was an AT-AT attack in TESB.

When used as the main showcase of the enemy's power,

"We just destroyed the entire planet of Naboo."

"We'll WE just destroyed Mos Eisley Spaceport on Tatooine"

Who are you going to fear more?

    Mos Eisley isn't a city.

    Theed is a city.

I'll give you an example to help you understand -

Coronet is the capital city on Correllia - these are images of Corellian cities from The Old Republic video game - http://gamingphanatic.com/2011/06/18/star-wars-the-old-republic-corellia-planet-screenshots/

So our heroes are in Coronet, a couple of Star Destroyers show up and start bombing the city - the gang has to get across the city to the Falcon to escape and lead an evacuation

Or the Empire and the Alliance armies are fighting for control of the planet with a full scale battle in the streets of Coronet.

The Space/ Atmospheric battle in Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty Star Wars-ish! It was cool. Took the battle over Coruscant to the next level. I'd like to see something like that. They should include a space station. We haven't seen a battle involving a space station yet!......Wait scratch that!

It's pretty likely an entire star system will be destroyed when the Star killer weapon is used.

Like New York? If Devlin and Emmerich get a Star Wars Producer/Director gig, I think that would be a given. They always destroy New York.
