Regardless of what religion or lack thereof that anyone here adheres to, I think it's important to respect whatever beliefs that Daniel held for himself and are likely the same beliefs that his wife and other family members follow.

I've been low on my income lately, so I haven't had a chance yet to donate anything to help support Daniel's family, but I intend to do so as soon as possible. Daniel may have passed, but I would wager that his wife still has to deal with all sorts of medical and funeral bills.

Maybe we could petition Disney or Lucasfilm to make a donation to this cause in his honor?

Dude, there is nothing wrong with being an atheist, just don't be a jerk about it. It's the same for everyone. It's about respect. Everyone may not see eye to eye but if we just respect one another for having different beliefs the world would be a much better place, I think.

Let's stick to the topic, please, and not get sidelined with the religion / atheism discussions. Thanks.

Also... RIP, Daniel. Sad to hear of his passing, but I'm so glad that people and LFL were able to make his wish come true before he became one with the Force.

I think it's great he was given the opportunity not only to see the movie but also to serve as a representative of and stand in for the hundreds if not thousands of Star Wars fans and avid moviegoers around the world who will die before the next Star Wars comes out.

I had a Trekkie friend who died of cancer and just missed the 09 Trek. Even though he didn't make it to the release, it was one of the things that kept him going and gave him the will to keep fighting. That's the magic of the movies we love.

Just saw this. Towards the end, it can become hard for everyone, the afflicted and the family alike. It's difficult to understand just how numbing it is to see a friend or family member break down from illness before your eyes unless you've seen it first hand. Although I'm saddened by Daniel's passing (despite having never met him; the human ability to feel empathy with those we don't personally know and have never met is an extraordinary gift), I know there's some small solace for his family and friends in not having to see their loved one live a half life any longer. Instead, he lives on whole in their memories, for as long as they may live. And I hope Daniel left this world with some comfort and happiness knowing that, all across the globe, thousands of people who loved the thing he held so dear knew his name and were cheering it.

It’s amazing that this happened with Star Trek, too. Just after the fan got see it he passed away. Just goes to show human resilience and will power. Daniel wanted to watch it before the end. He got his wish.

Its things like this that ultimately bring us all together as Star Wars fans.

I didn't even know Daniel personally but I called him 'brother' because that what we are all here: brothers and sisters - Star Wars fans.

    He loved the movie btw-

What I do know is that he was genuinely blown away by the movie. To be honest he's on a lot of drugs, but he kept telling us that its great, and he loved how it felt true to the original trilogy.

They said JJ has called the house several times just checking on him, as well as a few other awesome folks like Peter Mayhew.
