How is it simpler to involve a story about Chewie being in a coma beacuse of event that a fractin of the audience know about then just ignore a book written in 2001 (I believe) and having Chewie in the movie?

The retcon takes place before the movie - in a book. It's not just VP, there are references all the way through the 19 book NJO series - and quite possibly into more recent series.

they are going to ignore the book in tim's solution. but to keep the EU whole, he will be retconned into surviving

So they have to make it a multi-media thing and publish books or put the word out andhope all the fans get it? And what point do all these retcons to keep eveything included just kill the universe. Chewies dead, oh what he was just in a coma. Thats some days of our lives stuff. Id' rather just restart the EU an dkeep the stories that have been writen in tact then bastardize them like that.

easier just to ignore vector prime, sorry.

You know... didn't Lucas declare TFU as G-level Canon at some point? I mean I know there are different levels of canon in the EU but that seems odd to me. However... it does have some odd repercussions like Arica (Mara Jade's disguise in Jabba's Palace) being canonized at G-level thanks to the RoTJ radio play.

Wouldn't Arica being G-level while her being Mara Jade in disguise wouldn't be?

Not sure, but since the RoTJ radio play was released after Heir to the Empire I think it's more likely the reverse.

Really, all the EU after ROTJ should be considered none canonical.
I just think something as major as the death of Chewie or the other major 3 should be reserved for a movie only.
And lets be honest, vector prime wasn't a good book anyway, the vong could have been shown in a much darker and mysterious fashion.

LOL all of this EU stuff.

I know wishful thinking is common, we want something to be true, so we make it true in our minds.

Trouble is, reality can come crashing down on you. They have already made it abundantly clear that the EU is not going to be followed, they are making original stories. Those stories may have been approved by Lucas, but they were not written by him, and they are clearly not what he would have done with the characters. They are not making this movie to please the relatively small percentage of the public that are into the EU, they are making a film for the masses. They can afford to not care about the EU in the making of this movie, there would be no significant consequence.

The good news is, you will be able to absorb the blow early on; you will see Chewie in the trailers. That way, you won't become suicidal the night of Episode 7's release, you will have had time to develop coping skills, and will have been able to get closure on the painful loss of your EU attachment (hopefully). Just remember, healthy coping through something like meditation or exercise is better than maladaptive coping like drugs, alcohol, or self-harm.

Chewie will be in the ST if Han is, you can count on that. Also, you can count on 10,000 other EU story lines to get trashed. I am not trying to get you upset, quite the contrary; I am providing you with some reality orientation to help you manage your issues around the EU.

See, every time I see the word "Vong", my brain transposes the letter V sideways - and it reads as something Dery Vifferant....

Well, if Harrison Ford signs on, I'd expect we will see Chewbacca appearing in Episode VII. I understand the concerns of those who are avid EU fans but they have said that it will be an original story and I hope that they won't slavishly follow EU continuity. I don't think they will, although I expect the writers will use some EU characters, places and, perhaps, even weave some EU storyline(s) or subplot(s) into the new trilogy.

Disney also said theres a 20,000 year period and 17,000 charcters! Meaning we could get some stuff from the expanded universe like knights of the old republic and ETC

Anyways Chewies death is canon. Lucas killed him off because Orginally the new jedi order authors wanted to kill of Luke Skywalker.

I realize Chewbacca's return wipes out a lot of EU cannon, but I think it has to be done. He's iconic, perhaps the most iconic character aside from R2-D2, Yoda, and Vader.

i like the idea of han dying at the end of VII saving leia and hi son/ the hero. After han dies chewie pledges his life the the son/hero swearing to serve him to pay back the debt he owes to Han

Let's assume for a moment that Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels are all cast in Episode 7. If that's the case, are you telling me that a tall guy in a fury suit (or a CGI animation of a tall fury guy) won't be in the movie because some book that no one's ever heard of killed him off in a plot line involving an alien species invading the GFFA (a plot that is now obsolete and never existed because of this new sequel trilogy)?

Long story short, yeah he'll be there.

Chewie's cool cos he's a Wookie, he will be sorely missed but I'd rather see a new Wookie, perhaps a Jedi like Lowbacca

Yes. Chewie should be in all the new trilogy. He is no.4 after the Big Three, just ahead of the droids and Lando a joint 6th with Admiral Ackbar. I just hope he will be in the new trilogy. He was around in ROTS and is best mates with Yoda.
