Speculation Will EP VII win an Oscar?

My sources tell me that another movie that also doesn't exist yet is going to pull off a surprise win for best picture at the 2015 Oscars.

 

The best shot Star Wars ever had at winning major Oscars was 1978 when the original was nominated for screenplay and Best Picture. I believe it should have won Best Picture over Annie Hall, not because I'm a Star Wars nut but because as good a movie as Annie Hall is, Star Wars was more than just a movie and changed the landscape of cinema. That was obvious even back then.

But a new Star Wars movie is just a new Star Wars movie. As awesome as we all hope it is, it will still be a movie that's essentially "been there, done that." Episode VII would need to be radically different to the previous films and would need to redefine cinema the way the original film did to even stand a chance.

 

If even Avengers couldn't get any love from the Oscars then EVII doesn't stand a chance.

 

I don't think that The Avengers and Episode 7 are really going to be in the same boat, though. Regardless, both The Avengers and The Hobbit got unfairly screwed by Life of Pi.

If empire didn't win best picture for '80 then episode 7 won't. Maybe like best costume or best special effects or something.

No way should Avengers have gotten any Oscar love except maybe best visual effects. As a movie it simply was not all that great.

I thought it was strange that TDKR was shut out of every single category of the Oscars.

 

Will it win any "on air" Oscars? Not unless it's edgy and/or pretentious.

Yes I think it will. It's a Disney film so will be in the running for best song. Leia will probably mime a Celine Dion ballad. Definite Oscar chance
