ST Will Episode IX be like what The Hand of Thrawn duology was to the old EU?

I wonder if since Episode IX is set to be in the Unknown Regions among many planets. Will Rey and co. visit a fortress on any of those planets or moons? And will they reveal secrets like The Hand of Thrawn duology did with it's last novel Vision of the Future about the First Order and perhaps future threats in the UR that could appear in Episode X and beyond like the Yuuzhan Vong,Killiks or Vaagari or perhaps a new generation of Mandalorians including a descendant of Fett and Hapans and Corellian Rebellions or even a Lost Tribe of the Sith and their vast armada of ships that Rey and co. and the generation after them could face in Episodes X-XII or even Episodes XIII-XV?
