Honestly think the PT haters will say ST is better than PT, but will still hate on ST since "OT cannot be beat". I personally love all of Star Wars. :D

Star Trek does not have enough action in it like Star Wars.

You're hilarious. Yes, let's compare 88 seconds to several hours.

Perhaps I'm overly optimistic, but I think that The Force Awakens may well be something special that unites many, many fans :)

Hey, I did include the qualifier "so far" did I not? Besides, if people are allowed to love the movie based on 88 seconds, then I can hate it based on 88 seconds too! [face_not_talking]

i dont have a political lean, i just lean to what is better quality filmmaking. The new films had no heart, just cgi

Nothing really trumps 1-6...i may see the Disney stuff once it gets to Red Box. I dont see fans uniting though. I just hope when the new Disney films get to Red Box they dont over charge for the rental.

Answer: Yes. I predict there will still be one lone hater, though:

Mate, you've been saying this for months. I don't even understand why you're on the TFA boards in that case.

Except no one is saying they love the movie. They're saying their opinion on the teaser.

I dont know if TFA will unite fans, but if it's good it can certainly give both PT and OT fans common ground to love a Star Wars film.

I think TFA will be somewhat more divisive than the optimists expect.

On a scale from one to one-hundred (with 50 being the equivalent of the reception of TPM) I expect TFA will hit at about 72/100.

That's a respectable score that will go a long way toward repairing the connective tissue of Star Wars lore, but it's a high-moderate grading.

I'll be the first to admit that I have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, and I'm totally prepared to be wrong (for the better, I hope).

Conversely, I can see TFA being artificially overrated by being so far removed from the style of the prequels (say 95/100), sort of like The Avengers, which would bug me.

Yeah, I could see that. I would expect the tone to be more similar to JJ's Star Trek films: a sense of adventure and urgency with the performances and camera work, as the shots in the trailer would suggest, with likable characters and a good deal of humor. I think that while it might feel different than the OT due to the OT's age, it's absolutely in the spirit of what ANH was like at the time. I think it will succeed on a technical front, but the direction they take the SW Universe might alienate certain fans who have had 30 years to build up their own expectations about what happens after ROTJ. I think any sort of "uniting of the fans" will ultimately boil down to whether we all love the characters or not, as that might be enough to forgive technical or mythological issues.

Star Wars fans will always be divided...especially those who are upset the films don't turn out to be 100 % as they imagined...

The fact that some SW fans hate the PT and some love it shows that there is no single universal law about what constitutes the best SW film. I just want a SW film I like and can re-watch.
