I ment that the title represents us seeing the chiss dominatly in the future.

The Chiss will never be seen dominantly in the future. They are useful for what they are - another mysterious alien species to be mined as story fodder like any number of similar species.

Will we see them again. Of course. Are the Chiss the future of STar Wars? Of course not.

In any case, they might be redeemed as a whole if someone besides Zahn utilizes them well. Like Corran in the hands of Stackpole, the Chiss in the hands of Zahn are a potent "Star Wars Ruination device."

Corran was a good man, not a ruiner.

Well, I think the Empire - as a broad villian - is gone. In its place is a competing galactic government. My guess is that - provided they survive the YV Invasion, they'll reclaim much of the Outer Rim and devastated mid-rim planets close to them. They have a greater degree of inner stability - between military and gov't - than the Republic. Mass Immigration to the Empire is a foreseeable future.

I got to meet Zahn at the San Diego Comicon and he said that he wouldn't do a NJO book, but he'd like to do a prequel book, but probably won't, so don't worry ;-)

Every time I hear names like Flim, Miitthhrawnundo (whatever), or Jagged Fel, I break up laughing. And yes, I agree, Zhan has already ruined Star Wars enough.

Well, they have still their datas about all their superweapons (Bastion and Yaga Minor) and it doesn´t look as if the New Republic is going to survive (look at it, after more than twenty years even small uprisings are a major threat to them).

Despite that the empire is finished, at least for NJO. What happens after that will be eihter better or the final death of the SW-Literature and in that case if would like a stronger empire as competiting government.

Zahn will not return and as good as i think his books are, he is right to write no more SW. He has probably recognized himself, that five books are enough and it could only become worse.

Imagine how much garbage we wouldn´t have had to endure if every author was limited to five books, especially KJA and Michael Stackpole (i have enough of Corran Horn, kill him).

To my knowledge Zahn isn´t responsible for the creation of Jagged Fel.

    Amen. Sorry, fanboys.

Expecting the Empire to come back and defeat the Vong would be like expecting Canada to be able to defeat an enemy that could bring the United States to its knees. I'm a Canadian, and I really like Pellaeon, but both scenarios are implausable.

I do think that after the Vong leave the Empire will expand across the Outer Rim. The Republic is already fragmenting, and the safety and protection of a strong and unbiased governement might very well seem attractive to a lot of systems.

Actually, replace Canada with Switzerland, which has a well-trained and well-equipped but ridiculously small army. (And even the size are comparable !) I think it resumes even better what he meant. ;)

At least from a Swiss POV.

Chiss this and chiss that. Don't you people ever get tired of the Chiss? I've heard so much about their stupidity that I no longer think they're 'cool' or even a well-constructed species. It's like the authors said "Yeah what a great idea a species we can build upon as we go!" Same with the Noghri, only thing about them is that they haven't been portrayed as uber-super species. Sheesh, and the Empire coming back? HA! Okay this is a redundant topic, no offense, it is. We've been hearing that scenario since the DT duology.

The Chiss race is somewhat like the Vulcan/Romulan race, like vulcans the chiss are logical and mature faster than humans and they attend to their own affairs without bothering anyone else, Thrawn was a rogue among the chiss because he attacked others without logic or reason and threatened the society, the Chiss Empire will continue to be neutral for some time until the Yuuzhan Vong threaten them directly and once that happens the chiss fleet and the imperial/chiss joint fleet will deal with them, its just too bad that they dont have a capital ship of their own larger than an Escort Frigate except for the imperial ships guarding their space.

The chiss superior intelligence is what makes them better than the New Republic and Empire among the other governments opposing the vong fleet, the chiss empire and the Corporate Sector Authority fleets are both on good terms with whats left of the empire so they could unite in a group to oppose the vong and then defeat them together.
