Will Vice City be Better than GTA3?

Yeah, I definitely agree. Cycling through GTA3's 12 or 13 weapons was almost too much at times.

Speaking of weapons, I heard the helicopter will be able to drop explosives. Know if there's any truth to that?

 

I heard that somewhere, but I've got no confirmation. I know you shoot your sniper-rifle from the helicoptor, though.

 

I'm just glad they're fully supporting flight this time. A lot of GTA3's buildings didn't even have roofs and you could fly right through some of the skyscrapers. They were probably counting on the Dodo being tricky enough to keep the majority of players grounded.

But I always used the flying tank trick, as it was easier than flying the dodo.

 

Same here. The Rhino was a lot easier and convenient. I'd plop down about 10 tanks to clear the roads, then take off and cruise around the city. I managed to land in the football arena once, but I fell through it.

The fact that flight is a largely supported feature of this next game means that Vice City will have a whole new dimension that Liberty City didn't. It also means there's a lot more work involved. I really have to hand it to Rockstar. They could have just cranked out a GTA3 clone with a new setting, but instead they're working hard to greatly improve the forumla GTA3 established.

 

This may not be news to everyone, but I thought I'd mention that the official site has a radio up that lets you listen to samples from in-game stations. You can hear Lazlo at work on one of the stations! There are also videos for a few weapons like the katana. Man, that ruger looks awesome in action.

I wonder how the psychotic ice cream lady fits into the game. In GTA3 one of my favorite activities was to turn a Mr. Whoopee into death on wheels (with the jingly music going, of course)...

Exactly two weeks until GTA:VC hits the shelves. Almost there!

Meanwhile, I'm still playing GTA3. Since I can't find a GTA3 thread, I'll mention something odd I encountered today. I was driving around Staunton Island in a flatbed ramming cars when I noticed something unusual. Just up the road from the casino was a tank, just sitting there in the middle of the road! There was no driver and there were no police or soldiers around, so I got out of my flatbed, boarded the tank, then got it over to my garage. In all honesty, I did NOT use any codes to get that tank to appear. The only code I had used was the flying cars code to get to Staunton (started a new game and I wanted to get all the packages, rampages, etc done before doing the missions), and that was months ago. Since I was technically still supposed to be on the first island, it would have been impossible for me to get my wanted level to six stars to get the army to appear.

Very strange...

 

So whats the deal with a PC version? Has anyone heard anything concrete? Or is this just guess work.

While I hate to be the one doing most of the posting in this thread, I thought I'd point out some new information.

First, Gamespot has an interview with Rockstar about VC's chat stations. There will be two chat stations this time around.

Here's an interesting excerpt:

GS: So what is different about the talk radio in Vice City?

L[azlow]: It's a lot longer, for one. There's about three times as much talk radio in Vice City compared with Grand Theft Auto III. And we decided to take on other genres of radio, specifically public radio and panel discussion shows.

DH: Our aim across the whole of Vice City was better, bigger, more detailed, and more diverse. This is something you'll see across all of the game, the radio and the talk radio. We've moved from one station, Chatterbox, to two, Vice City Public Radio and K Chat. Chatterbox was a completely unstructured phone-in show. The two stations this time are a bit more themed--celebrity interviews and phone-in on K Chat, and a public radio panel show on VCPR. We wanted to get a good contrast between the two shows. One is people arguing violently amongst each other in a typical public radio debate and the other is celebrities and people with things to sell being interviewed by a moron. Unfortunately, Lazlow was already busy on the rock station, so we found someone else. We didn't want to do more Chatterbox, because it would be boring--we always want to surprise people with something new--and because we couldn't have Lazlow host Chatterbox in the '80s when he was on the rock station.

Highlights:

The coolest aspect of driving motorcycles in GTA: Vice City is the fact that pushing down or up on the left analog stick causes you to shift your character's weight on the bike backward or forward, causing it to pop wheelies or endos (front-tire wheelies).


The fact that you can actually furnish your home and acquire a wardrobe over the course of the game certainly seems like a nice touch, though, and another point of interest is the fact that you can take small vehicles like motorcycles indoors with you. Shopping malls plus motorcycles--take a moment to think of the possibilities.


EDIT: Also some new updates at ViceCity.com, including a new trailer and some new weapons... Tear gas! Can't wait to see that in action.
