ST Will we ever learn how Max von Sydow's character obtained the map to Luke?

Outside of a novel, I'm not sure it will be addressed at this point, just another "use your imagination" answer, kind of like Luke's lightsaber turning up in Maz's bar.

 

Nope. And I'm guessing how Maz came by Anakin/Luke's lightsaber will never be explained either...

 

I had originally thought that MVS's character was Rey's grandfather (her mother's father) if Luke had been Rey's father, but that apparently didn't happen. So I have literally no clue.

 

I guess he will be the Sifo-Dyas of the Sequel Trilogy lol - a relatively important part of the story brushed aside. Well, I'm sure a novel or comic will address it, but it's a shame because it has such potential to be interesting.

 

You serious? These are things they just don't care about. Same with Maz having Luke's lightsaber.

 

Good question. I was wondering the same thing, after seeing Episode VIII. Maybe it will be answered in an Animated Series, taking place during the Timeline between ROTJ and TFA. I am not holding my breath though.

 

I'm not all caught up on the Poe Dameron comic, but the premise of it is Poe finding Lor San Tekka and his misadventures in finding him helps us learn more about how Lor San Tekka got the map.

 

I totally forgot about his character. Wasn't he Rey's cute boyfriend?

We already know. This is not a map to Luke, this a map to Ahch-To, to the first Jedi temple. LST was a member of the Church of the Force, that's why he had the map. When Luke's disappearance becomes known to the Resistance, they send Poe to contact Lor and he gives them a copy of the same map that Luke has been using on the assumption that that's where he's gone.

 

Buy the book! The video game! The coloring book! The action figure with more crucial information on the backcard!

Basically, to hell with making a great movie! The movie is now just a part of a marketing machine baby!

 

Well, I don't mind the merchandising machine, I've been a contributor since the 70's lol. At least the new novels and comics are recognized canon. I'll have to check out the Poe comics, I'm just reading the Vader series right now. It's fantastic.

 

The name "Lor San Tekka" was never even mentioned in the movie.

To the general audience, he was just some old man.

Lucasfilm doesn’t feel the need to answer many questions regarding the ST. In order for TFA to have the same setup as ANH, they had to make certain things happen like Maz having Luke’s lightsaber and Luke trying to murder his nephew so he could go to the dark side and Han could go back to smuggling.

We don’t know how the First Order came about, who Snoke is/was, and how all everyone now has Force powers never before used except for a vague sentence about an awakening. This is just another thing added to the list.

 

And no one in ROTJ uses the term "Ewok." And I don't think the name "Boba Fett" is said in Empire. What does it matter...

 

Yes -- this is covered in the Poe Dameron comic. I think he stole the map from Cato neimoidia.

There are some stunning panels of General Leia in issue #21. Including some of her viewing padme's gowns

 

Maybe they'll do a 2 hour spin-off film explaining how he got the map.

Hey, RO's premise isn't much stronger.

 

And it would probably be more interesting than Rogue One was lol

 

I would actually enjoy a LST book. Hopefully it's in the works.
