I thought that the Whills were supposed to be humans from our galaxy and time. Maybe I am just misremembering something, but I thought the conceit about the Whills was that somehow R2-D2 alone survived the millennia and ended up in our galaxy and that is how George Lucas got the story which he related to us in the saga. He (R2) told the story to the "shaman of the Whills", i.e. George Lucas who presented us with this "history" of a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away. But maybe this is just one of those childhood miss-rememberies of mine. I thought it was like the conceit that Middle Earth is a past age of our own world and that the fantasy presented therein is an actual history of another time in another place. Otherwise, what is the point of "the journal of the Whills"?

Perhaps IX will end on May 25, 1977 with George Lucas discovering R2 and deciding to make a movie of the fourth chapter.

My guess is that Yoda is a Whill being. In other words Yoda belongs to the Whill species. What the Hobbits were to Middle-Earth...the Whills are to the Star Wars galaxy. Yoda's people were mostly galactic historians. The Yoda movie will likely display Yoda's origins. Yoda or his progenitor(s) is likely modeled on the Psycho-history agents from Asimov's Foundation saga. Young Yoda will be much like Frodo. You might say the Whills keep the wheels of history turning for a galaxy far, far away...

So you mean it was George Lucas who taught Qui-Gon Jinn, and by extension, Obi-Wan and Yoda, how to become Force Ghosts? "The ability to defy oblivion can be achieved, but only for oneself. It was accomplished by a Shaman of the Whills."

    Whoa. Mind = Truly Blown.

I'm still hoping they'll bring in Liam Neeson to record his dialogue for EPII and especially EPIII regarding the Whills. It probably won't happen but a guy can dream.

Yep and that's why I still have some hope left. I don't know if Disney or Lucasfilm will bother to do it though.
