I view that lightsaber design like I view a lot of the TIE Fighter fan designs we've seen over the years. People's philosophy in designing these things are to keep adding additional pieces of the element that defines them. A lightsaber with 3 blades!! A TIE figher with 8 wings all surrounding it with laser guns on each side!! (looking at you TIE Defender, ugh)

More is not better in some cases.

I pray this is fake. I mean the purpose of crossguard is for the protection of the wielder's hand as two swords hit and the blade of the attacker slides down, it hit's the crossgaurd. If this was on film, another lightsaber would slide down and just chop off the guard! LOL!!! I know, lightsabers aren't practical anyway, but at a point they even get ridiculous.

 

Well the cross-guard would be viable if the emitters weren't sticking out so far. As it is now, the emitters would have to be protected by a lightsaber resistant metal to serve the function of a cross-guard, like Phrik or Cortosis. Admittedly, the old lightsaber designs were ones where I would have expected a skilled duelist to be able to slide the blade down into the opponent's hand when in a blade lock.
