It's too early for OT v. PT.

Let's just get excited about the ST! It's looking good so far, based on 2 minutes of footage! I love that the set is so detailed.

 

So we just got our first glimpse of an Episode VII set and a creature from the film, paired with a chance to appear in the film while financially supporting a great cause, and we've already devolved to OT/PT bickering and Trek/Wars fights?

This is why we can't have nice things.

 

That creature is straight out of Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace!! In fact, that whole set reminded me of Mos Espa.

Someone mentioned that the creatures species made an appearance in TCW helping Ahsoka finding her lightsaber? Can anyone confirm or point to the episode? I cannot remember...

Well, I'm pretty sure this is going to break some charity-giving records. And possibly unintentionally DDOS Omaze's software. Awesome to see that they are leveraging some of the hype to do good.

I would donate ten bucks to pretty much any organization if it could win me a chance to be in Ep. VII.

 

This is getting "more real" with every passing day.

The Jedi who helps Ahsoka is Tera Sinube, a Cosian. The species in the video doesn't look quite the same to me. Could be wrong, though.

 

Maybe even the Galactic Empire, Nazi Germany, & Off-World Replicant Harrison-Ford-Characters Subjugation Fund...

 

I love how people are assuming that the presence of one practical creature means that the entire film will be filmed like it was 1982. TPM had huge sets, old school prosthetics, miniatures and puppets - it also had masses of CGI! It's nice to see that the whimsy and fun of SW isn't being tossed out a window; but c'mon, it's 2014, they're not going to make a movie with zero CGI.

 

I couldn't take in a word he said the first time! I was just gibbering to myself like an idiot as I watched it...I'm over the moon about getting this tantalising little glimpse at last of what looks for sure like Tatooine; finally something new to discuss!

 

So we only made it a few pages in before the PT/OT debate starts... well it stops now.

What an awesome thing to wake up to this morning! I'm really glad they are doing a charity thing (and I'm sure I'll throw some money their way) but it looks like most of you thought the same thing as me... A set! Costumes! Practical creatures! Now let the analyzing commence.

Doesn't look the same to me either. The feet are a lot different and Master Sinube has a long tail.

 

Looks right to me. They even both have 3 fingers. Not every member of an alien species has to look exactly alike; humans certainly don't.

I think Serkis in the cast is proof positive of that.There's nothing wrong with greenscreen and CGI as long as they endeavor to use physical elements whenever it would add to realism / atmosphere. Hard to shoot scenes on, say, a volcano planet using real-world locations.

 

I am having a full-on nerdgasm this morning. I've watched the video six times now and just keep hitting play. A couple of thoughts...
1. I thought I didn't want to go back to Tattooine, but gosh darn it, the look of that Tattooine market got me ridiculously excited, so ok... I'm fine with seeing Tatt again.
2. That creature looks awesome! Love the creatures in his cage (children? food? both?) I am definitely hoping for a good mix of cg and practical effects, like the prequels, but it made me excited to see this Dark Crystal looking dude wandering around. Just looking at him makes you see he has a story. That is something the Star Wars film backgrounds are packed with and I was worried that JJ wouldn't get it, but I think he just might.
3. I'm ready to see this film now. That is all. (Oh, and I will definitely be choosing Unicef as my charity for this month's paycheck - ha.)

(And I can't believe people don't like Dexter Jettster. He's my second favorite cgi character of all time, behind only Watto...)

 

Maybe it's incognito Adam Driver and we're being teased the main villain.

Wouldn't put it past JJ...

 

The creature looks great! And I agree. It does have a Labyrinth vibe to it. Love it!
