So, we are supposed to get a lot of snow in southern New England, up to 3 feet, and expect 30% of houses to lose power... Winter Storm Nemo is here!

This is the anniversary of the Blizzard of '78 too.

    Anyone else bunkered down?

I would be able to take this storm more seriously if it had a different name.

Hunker down, not bunker down. You clearly have no idea how to deal with snowstorms. :p

Still, it was pretty off and on earlier. It was more like light sleet around 11, and even when it turned to snow around 2, it kept switching back and forth for a while before settling on snow. I'm not worried.

Of course, they just have to cancel classes when it's already my day off. Dang weather. [face_frustrated] I guess I shouldn't complain too much, since I got a whole week off because of Sandy.

I can't find a smiley for it, so I guess you'll just never know. Sorry.

Yeah, starting this year, to raise awareness of storms so there's better preparation.

I want to know who came up with these names... I guess Winter Storm Orca is going to be hitting the South next?

So I'm hearing a lot about how much snow is getting dumped on the Northeastern U.S. and how everyone is miserable and yada yada...what about Canada? How come we're not hearing anything about them? Weather doesn't care about geopolitical borders, so what's happening north of that border?

Some places in Canada have more than 3 feet, and that's from 12 hours ago, who knows now...

It's definitely over a foot in my part of Rhode Island, though other parts of the state are over 2 feet.

Watching CNN's live coverage of this and there are three people from DC/Virginia who decided to play tourists and come up to see the storm.

And apparently according to the AP a nuclear power plant in Mass. has lost power and is shut down.

The Weather Channel has decided to, despite the National Weather Service telling them not to because they don't want people thinking every foot of snow is the same thing as a hurricane and not taking hurricanes as seriously. This one probably deserves some hunkering, but still, most of them are not nearly as dangerous overall as hurricanes.

Hence why nobody else in the media is using the name. Their just calling it a massive winter storm.

What a joke! It was predicted that my area would get 6-12 inches. We got four at best. Not that I'm unhappy about having to shovel less, but I was out earlier and noticed that the main roads are only half plowed. With all the hype and prep, why are the main roads only half plowed? THe side roads are actually in better shape! [face_dunno]

Thats why I love Louisiana. We're already in spring. :p

Simple reason. Canadians don't have a tendency to whine and complain when **** gets a little uncomfortable.

Unlike Massachusetts who will throw your arse in jail if they find you driving in the snow.

As late as Wednesday they were saying 2-4 inches. We got 29. I'd be happier if the weather reports were just a picture of a guy throwing his arms in the air in confusion.

    Amazing.
