hi guys i thought since the old grievous thread kinda died out i thought why not create a new one since i'm still working on it. grievous is now finaly almost done all he will realy need is a texture and fortunatly i have learned how to do that now.
tho i'm still a little rusty with photoshop but i getting the hang of it now.

sadly i have no real textured images for you at the moment how ever i do have some other juicy pics including a new before and after photo of the new head.
crits and comments are as always very welcome.

as you can see ive placed general grievous in my set model of the invisible hands observation deck wich was originaly made for the contest but i sadly had to drop out.

note the posed pic of grievous still has the old head

P.S. Zoo if you think i should have kept going in the old grievous thread please tell me or close this thread. thanks

Look great. Just needs some texturing. I could probably do some textures, but I'd need UV maps.

its rigged yes but you have to animate the arms manualy no ik handles ect.
also for those who do not know this is done in maya not 3dsmax or any other 3d aplication

you could use better rendering :), it seems very nice model, but no lighting disturbs. Give at least a clay look render ;).

Add some lights, then change the renderer to Mental Ray, in the lights settings, enable photons and then turn on Global Illumination in the render settings, that should add Global Illumination where there is some nice lighting. If there's a better way of doing it, someone post it because I'm not all that great at using Maya.

why exactly am i a life saver?

ok here's 2 ortho images of the head i havent re-atached the head to the main body eyt cause i'm rigging the head seperatly from the main body
the head is finished now btw all thats left on him now is the re-sizing of the fingers and ataching the cables in his neck to the organs in the gutsack.

yes they will actualy all be connected acordingly :D

i know one of the lines on the colar is larger than the other thats because i'm still experimenting with the size of those

here's an other update as you will be able to see in the screens i added the last remaining cables to his collar and i fixed the size of the black lines on his colar.
also i tried out a new rendering option as you can see.

but now to the more important part (for me anyway) i finaly figured out how to do the hydrolics that hold up his head properly ony the thing i didnt figure otu yet is how to rig up the cables in such a way that they would bend like they should when you move the head and that they wouldnt go through eachother.
so for those who didnt know yet i am using maya 6 to make this model and if anyone knows how i can rig up those cables all your help is very much apriciated.

and now to the screenshots :p

    C&C is much apriciated

    update time!

hes done the model is finished save a few minor tweaks wich you wont see anyway (mainly optimising the meshes)
tommorow i'll start texturing it and after i finish that i'll re-rig it.
    so expect some updates tommorow

the model (unsmoothed) is 600.000 polygons and when its fully smoothed its over 8 million polygons so i recomend a high end system when rendering this thing

Does this mean you are releasing it in this thread sometime soon? Is it going to be in .3ds format. Its a really cool model once you enlarge the picture.

yes i'm going to submit it to sci-fi 3d for people to download and use in fanfilms or what ever they feel like using it for (aslong as i'm properly credited ofcourse)
and i wil convert it to .3ds .dxf .obj and .mb and i'll include a lower poly animation model with it wich will be around 5000 to 6000 polygons for animation.

Cool. I liked the picture of Grevious with the four lighsabers. My brother thought he sucked because he only had two arms. What do six year olds know, anyway. I thought all your models were kool. I noticed your WIp Grevious on Sciifi3d after I wrote my last post on here.

You seem to be obsessed with .3ds files. I just read off of the anim8or site (which I think is what yo use) that it imports .obj, which is far better than .3ds. Why do you go for .3ds all the time?

    hahaha funny

well the reason i want top and bottom is because of the arms.. would be kinda hard to model from the side lol

Nice attention to detail. You got that little hook behind his mouth figured out.

Are you still using my ears? I see now that the ridges should be on both sides, not just the front.

edit: I think the bottom of his mask curves a little too much. You should also look at the outside corner of his eyes, they should be sharper.
