Yeah, that's pretty good there. Now, to move up from newbie to.....better than newbie ( ;) ) add more details to the model, more greebles (not the plugin, actual greebles), and modify the textures a bit to make it stand out better. But good job though. Thumbs up! :)

What are greebles actually? And how could I make the textures look better?

    Thanks for the comments :)

Greebles are the small detailings that you see on objects, ie. pipes, wires, boxes, thingies, etc.

To help improve the texturing, I would model in the lines that you use for bump maps so it's part of the actual model. This will give it a sharper look to it. Some more grime and worn out areas on the texture also helps bring more realism to the model.

    :)

I've started working on the greebles.

For the others things you suggested, instead of bumps I should do a boolean with substracted boxes?

    Thanks!

I would use Shapemerge with splines.

    Hmmm

Well I know how to use shapemerge, but... how do I use it for bumps?

This week's been really weird... Back Monday I had NO idea on how to do decent modelling... And know... I feel like Neo, in the Matrix, when he gets shot and gets up! Woooo! I'm invicible!

    LOL! :D

Well I know my models are not flawless. Where should I add more greebles? Oh and yes, my textures look fake... As far as the smoothing groups are concerned, what should I do?

That is very good model but one thing I noticed was the edges are way too sharp you should bevel them so the dont look so precise that will also add a source of realism.

Yeah, it's looking great. The smoothing problem can be fixed by going into your modifing tab and in the menu, select Smooth. This should take care of it. And as Vinman009 posted, add some beveling on the edges to round it off slightly. This will help with realism.

Indeed, you're coming a long way. Keep it up.

Thanks a bunch for the comments.

Yeah I noticed it's too sharp. It really bothered me, 'cause I feel I'm back in the mid-90's playing X-Wing on DOS. LOL! :D

The old X-Wing game with sharp edges? LOL :D
(Maybe Tie Fighter-CD-Collection in SVGA)... ;)

I like your ship. It still looks very WIP-like but: Great start.

Oh my I'm getting nostalgic here...

Alpha, ONE, mission, critical, craft, under, attack.... LOL

    Admiral Zaarin, Admiral Harkov... Thrawn...

Good old times... I remember playing it on my old 200 Mhz... being blown away by the "breathtaking" graphics... LOL :D I remeber, I was 12 back then... Used to wake up at 5 AM to play...

My parents came down, half awake, and they'd be like "What the heck are you doing on the computer at this time!"

Anyways, I want to change the front cockpit, it's too square... any suggestions? and where should I put more greebles?

    Thanks!

Well Dig, actually it was the Lucasarts Archives...

Tie Fighter, Rebel Assault 1 & 2, Dark Forces Demo, a preview of Behind the Magic...

Stupid TIE fighter, it crashed so often...!

Good old memories... Rookie One, Ru Mureen. I remember playing it with my friends and see who'd have the better score... shooting down TIE fighters...

But I really enjoyed TIE Fighter anyway, I loved shooting down Rebel scum! But hey I don't want to go back to those graphics... Once you pop, you cannot stop.

Long live 3D to the Max!!!!

Well, in our country there was a X-Wing and Tie Fighter Collector-CD with all Addons (Tie Fighter in 640*480)
My first PC-Game I bought: Rebel Assault (I was very disappointed)
    2nd: XWing-CD (excellent)
3rd: Tie Fighter-CD (best space simulation ever)
4th: Dark Forces (From now on 3D-Shooter Fan)
    :D :D
    enough of this...

Bevel: You must select the EDGES you will bevel and then CHAMFER (value)

You can look at finished Models to get some ideas. Maybe you should add some metal-plates on the wings and cockpit front...

Been refining it a bit today with the beveling, redone the cockpit and added a couple of details.
