Most Christmas music functionally fast-forwards to talking about the crucifixion and resurrection anyway, so playing it at Easter isn't that inappropriate.

 

You wouldn't play Summertime in January, Wocky. Why would you play Christmas music in March?

Even when I was a kid at the time it came out, I thought "ID4" was a dumb initialism.

 

I haven't watched that movie in ten years at least.

most christmas music is a about winter time and jingle bells and roasting chestnuts and letting it snow, christmas trees, reindeer, presents and snowmen. that's why it's weird. there are only a few popular carols that go into the religious aspects of the holiday at all. silent night, o little town of bethlehem, little drummer boy and i dunno what else.

 

You would in the southern hemisphere.

 

Well, since it is a repurposed winter holiday honoring a made up roman god in lieu of another made up godchild - and said godchild being bumped into near irrelevance by the more real god of wanton consumerism wearing the guise of a fat old bastard in red - the music might as well follow suit by dispensing any and all religious bull and focus instead on banality. It happens all the time down my neck of the woods. Every year the songs get stupider and very few of them mention little baby Jaysis.

That said, yes, it is goddam weird to be listening to that crap past January the 1st. It should be illegal even.

I still have my Christmas tree up. I kid you not. I'm an unbelievable procrastinator. I'm going to put the Home Alone soundtracks on and blare them for the neighbors.

 

Jabba-wocky , do you prefer classical Christmas music (ie "Oh Come All Ye Faithful", "Silent Night", "Oh Holy Night", "What Child Is This"), early/mid 20th century music (ie "White Christmas", "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", "Silver Bells") or the modern commercial stuff (ie "Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer", "Last Christmas", "The Christmas Song", "Santa Claus is Coming to Town")?
Or do you say "Screw them all!!" and listen exclusively to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra?

 

I can name a grand total of about 3 christmas songs that are about those things. Most of them are songs with those elements directly in the lyrics, and they're not at all "popular." I don't know anyone that sings them or cares to.
