Feb 18th might seem like a long way out...but it just seems that way. It'll sneak up on us trust me.

NOW for eveyone who didn't go last year and our newbies this year, WONDER-CON/Unity is where it's at (see below for details)

Last year we had a UNITY dinner Friday night with the other fanforces and 501st groups as well as special guests. having been there last year it was the highlight of the weekend (aside from the bar room brawl I had to bail Hawkgirl out of...she's fiesty that one) for me.

Then there's the Wonder-con itself is beyond coolness, and this year with Episode 3 just a short time after I'm sure Lucasfilm will make it rock the house. (not to mention a certain fanfilm trailer could make it's debut at the con)

The show floor is huge. the guests are huge (in celeb power not literally huge...unless they raise Marlon Brando from the dead).

Last year the combined fanforces and 501st were asked to escort Steve Sansweet of Lucasfilm to his speaking engagement at the Con. So who knows what might happen this year.

People in costume everywhere. You wouldn't believe how many people will ask to take a pic with you if your in costume.

i have been waiting for wondercon to come around again.
and this time i can show off my new custom saber that arrived today.

 

Cool, looks like WonderCon will be a great way to see how the club works with the Star Wars community at large and well give me a chance to meet all of the members; unless I have to opportunity to meet you sooner. Do we have hotel reservations or something that I can find out about when I get my ticket? I used to live in Sausalito and my dad lives in the city so I might stay with him while I am in the area.

 

Ahhh yes, good memories. Friends, food, bar fights. Hey! That guy shouldn't have touched my lightsaber.

When the time gets a little closer I will know if I can make it. I'd love to go again, WonderCon is so much fun for those who haven't attended. I like to think of it as the biggest little convention that the Rogues invade.

 

We should set aside some time at our meeting each month as well as planning this online.

I would suggest we get tickets in advance and book any needed rooms at least by Jan 18th.

Last year I got my room but barely since I decided last minute.

The room I had was like 74.00 a night and was about 6-7 blocks from the con. It had two beds.
(as a bit of info: the hotel was where the Maltese Falcon was written..I made the mistake of commenting on the book and Maltese Falcon behind the check in counter and the manager..began a long winded story about it...while I did the pee pee dance)
but that place also charged for parking and it wasn't cheap...so find a place early and find one that doesn't charge to park your car.

I think I'm going to work some deadpool magic and get in on a press pass. But Volunteering will get you kids in free....and it's not like your cleaning toilets. Last time I was suppose to stand next to Toby "Spider-man" Maguire while he signed pics. (I got busy and forgot to go...DOH!)

Just wanted to bring this back up. It's not far away...plans must be made, then screwed up and remade.

Of all the events I know I may miss this year, WonderCon and Unity are the ones I'd rather not miss. Unfortunately, with me applying to jobs and schools all across the country I have no idea if I can go. I'd like to at the very least go to U2 as it is the best way to see the most amount of people I know.

Like I said earlier, I may not know until the last minute, but if it's at all feasable, I will go. I will drive up and crash on someone's couch if I have to.

FYI, several of my peeps will be there, including a couple of lineys who are making their own comic book. There is an "outside" chance that Lisa and I will be there as well. Will make sure and keep you posted.

 

LDV and I are looking at room rates for anyone interested in trying to get that together.

I might stay both nights...it's what I want to do but $$$ might get in the way. If not I'll go up all day friday and Sat and leave very late.

Also depends on what's going down with a few of my other plans and schemes.

 

Please keep me posted on the room rates you find. Even if I have to stay farther away, it'd be nice to know someone else in the hotel so I don't have to walk/drive back by myself.

 

It's looking more and more likely I will be there for this. Brining a few LU.ney friends too.

When/where is Unity? I'd like to start mending the rift between NOrth and South.

 

They haven't figured out where and when yet KR regarding Unity. They are going to let us know shortly.

It's suppose to but so far no info has come up. I hope so I had a blast last year, be a shame if we didn't do something.
